I had one of the most bizarre experiences of my life at this branch. I'd made an appointment online to discuss opening an account for small business checking and credit cards. It assigned me a banker, and I received email confirmation of my appointment.
When I arrived for my appointment, the branch appeared completely empty of either customers or employees. Eventually, somebody poked their head out from the back and asked what I needed. I told them I had an appointment with Bridgette at 1pm, and was very abruptly told "Bridgette's not here." "Oh," I said. "I made an appointment online, and it said it would be with her." Again, very abruptly, "Yeah? Well, she's not here." After just staring at me for a couple seconds, she asked me "What is it you want?" I told her I was trying to open a checking account and apply for credit cards for my small business, and she informed me "Well. Tom's here." Fine by me, what do I care. I just needed a banker to help me. I'm sure Tom will do just fine. She pointed out a guy at a desk I hadn't noticed when walking in, and I walked over to Tom to hopefully start the process.
When I got to his desk, I was just told to wait a second. Eventually when he got around to me, there was no "hello," "how's it going," "tell me about your business," or anything. His first question was simply "how many signers?" Ok, that's fine. I don't need pleasantries. "There will be two of us." Tom replied, "Ok, there's no point in doing this unless the other signer is here." I informed Tom I was the sole owner of the business, and if there was a way I could simply set up our accounts and then come back with the other employee who would also be able to conduct banking business and set them up. He told me that would just be a waste of time. Perhaps in some existential sense he's right, but ultimately I was there to set up bank accounts, and, in fact, had made an appointment with the elusive Bridgette to do just that. We went back and forth on this same call and response a couple times, until it became clear that he had no interest in helping us set up our accounts that day.
So I'd made an appointment to come in, the person who was assigned to me wasn't there (as I was rudely told twice), and then now that I'm sitting with a different banker he's trying to tell me not to set up an account. He then told, didn't ask, told, me to go get my employee and and come back. I told him that employee wasn't at a point in the work day where they could just leave, at which point Tom told me to come back another day then. I asked if he was serious, and he simply stared at me, so I just told him we probably wouldn't come back to Wintrust. Again, I'm in no need of pleasantries, but he didn't say "thanks" or "goodbye" or "have a nice day" or anything at all as I packed up the stuff I'd just unpacked 90 seconds prior and walked out. Just a weird human thing let alone business thing.
Perhaps I don't look like the type of person who can run a small business, or maybe both he and the first woman who talked at me were annoyed I'd made an appointment at 1pm on a Friday and they weren't interested in doing any work the remainder of the day, but either way, the message was clear - we don't want to help you open up a business banking account.
In short, while certainly a negative experience, and I'd give zero stars if it were an option, it was utterly bizarre. 0/10 would recommend this branch. Also don't waste your time making an appointment. It...
