Lemme just address some of the negative reviews here:
when you're trying to sell to them, your stuff needs to be in like-new condition. that means no bent spines, no scratched CDs, no loose DVDs, etc. If they have more than a few copies of a book or whatever in stock already, they are not going to buy yours, especially if what they already have isn't selling. Even then they may not want to buy it from you if it is something that is not in high demand, like ten year old nonfiction books or polka records.
After that, you're only going to get a bulk offer on whatever they want to buy from you. That means if they want to buy 10 books from you, the offer they give is for those 10. They cannot break it up if you decide you want just one of those 10 back without doing a whole new thing which will take more time. It's just how the computers work. They aren't allowed to tell you what they are paying out for each individual item. Blame corporate for that.
The price they appraise things at will be based on SOLD online listings, like those from ebay, poppriceguide, comicbookrealm, etc. After that, know that you are only getting a small percentage of what an item is valued at. If it's a book, you might get 10% in cash, or 20% in credit. So yeah, if they're gonna sell a used book for $5, you're gonna get offered around 50 cents cash or $1 dollar credit. Sometimes those percentages are better if something is worth more, like a pricey Funko Pop. Know that sometimes their appraisal may not be perfect, like if a book is already in the system at $5 when it should maybe be priced at $7. Again, just blame corporate for how their computers work-- they don't want multiple copies of the same thing on the floor going for different prices.
If you're shopping, know they have both new and used items. Look at the price stickers. Stuff that has their orange and white sticker is used. It may sell for under retail, like if it's a used book, or more than retail if it's a rare LP pressing that is hard to come by. The new stuff will not have those stickers, is direct from their distributors, and will be at MSRP.
The big thing I think is that people come in here not understanding how things works, then get mad because either they can't read, don't ask the right questions, or get mad at employees making minimum wage for a company that won't let the explain how buyback fully works.
So if you're trying to get rid of some books on your shelf to get another one, great. But don't expect to be making bank here. Always remember that when it comes to buyback, THEY are the customer, as you are trying to SELL TO THEM, and then they are trying to turn around and make a profit. You can always reject their...
Read moreSo me and my husband went in to look to see what collectibles they do have. We do not usually go here because most of their items are overpriced to begin with but we thought to give it a chance since we were in the area. My husband inserted his card did not put his pin in yet. He than remembered he had a 10% coupon so they canceled the transaction before he could authorize the payment he never even put his pin in. And my husband got a alert that they took the money out already. They tried to reinsure that the money was not processed through yet the card reader was just making sure that we had the available balance in it with our bank he had us put in the card a second time and then it charged us again. The gentleman then told us we would have to dispute the transaction through our bank because they couldn’t do nothing about them charging us twice. I’m never a person to complain but I was just appalled how instead of fixing the issue they made it worse. They tried to make it better by telling us they put a ticket in for their card reader?! Wow thank you? So everyone after us will never deal with the issue but we still have to disbute the transaction on a Sunday when our bank is closed. Telling me every person after us won’t have to deal with this issue does not help that you charged me twice when those were my questions before I had my husband swipe his card a second time I asked before that if it would charge twice and they said no yet it still did. This was such a terrible experience now I have to wait for it to post on my actual account and hope I can dispute it if not there’s nothing. I can do I lost out on money they took from me. Don’t get me wrong the employees were nice but does not know enough knowledge about their...
Read moreIf you're looking for a place to sell books, Funkos, CDs, etc. at a fair price, this is not the place to go. Sorry. I know you guys need to make a profit, but $1.36 in store credit for a box of Comic Books in sleeves was sad. This was awhile ago, mind you. Maybe the person in charge of buying that day was having a bad day? That said, if you are looking to buy, and want a place that has really fun and unique items, go here. Bring your own bags, which is fine, plan on spending some time, and do it. Clean bathrooms are there if you're shopping for more than an hour - I always am - plan on meeting some really cool employees, and enjoy looking around for the hidden treasures. Since they moved to the Valley, it has always been one of my top three stores to go birthday and Christmas shopping. They excel at organization, and whoever sets up the store displays deserves a raise. It's book lover and Nerd Heaven! I can shop with my teenager and neither of us feel left out or bored. With merchandise turnaround, it's like walking into a new store every time I go back. Love it. Some things are pricey, some things are not, but that's the norm. Might give selling used stuff there a second chance, everyone and every store deserves one, but the first experience was a turnoff. Overall, they will have my business whenever I'm in town. Might consider bringing back a few chairs for those who need to rest a bit .....
