Jen's Hallmark Shop — Local services in Whittier

On December 12. 2021, I purchased a miniature ornament at Jen’s Hallmark in Whittier. I attempted to return the ornament on December 16th for a refund or exchange. I have to say I am quite dismayed about their return policy. When I tried to return the item, I was informed I could not return it. The cashier informed me that they pick an arbitrary day to not take back returns. This ‘policy’ is not stated anywhere on their receipt, nor is anything posted at the checkout. Upon check out it is not told to you. There is no paper posted in the ornament section to which the ‘policy’ relates to, and not even on the door when one enters the shop. The two employees behind the counter acted as if we were informed about the ‘policy’ beforehand. On the receipt it is stated; no post season returns, no returns after 30 days, no returns on sale items and no returns without the receipt. December 12th is not after the season is over, nor has it been 30 days passed the return period, and I also purchased the item at full price. Nowhere does the return policy on the receipt have an exception for the Keepsake ornaments. At first, I was not aware that each store is privately owned so I tried taking it to another Hallmark on December 15th, but they told me they could not exchange it for another of the same price as it was not purchased at their store. Horrible. The worst customer service I’ve ever experienced. I bought an item then decided to return it the following day. Item was unopened with the receipt. The employee insisted I was required to give them my phone number, address, and email in order to return the item. Just for a simple return back to my credit card! She treated me like trash when I politely said I didn’t want to give out my personal information. Ridiculous. Never...

I happened to shop at the TJ's next door, so I went to check this place out. I was pleasantly surprised. They have many nice gifts, and a lot of Christian items. They were putting out the Christmas stuff (!!!) when I walked in. Lots of ornaments out already. I almost bought a Captain America one, but decided it was too early. And hot. It was 95F outside. I bought a Jesus ring, and made a note to self to return for the Cap ornament...
