I am enjoying attending classes and working out at the Water Street Fitness facility at the Wilmington Island Park District. They offer Yoga and Cardio Kick Boxing classes. I have only attended Yoga but the small class size allowed the instructor to interact with each class member and individualize poses as appropriate.
They have a variety of cardio machines including stationary bikes, recumbent stationary bikes, a recumbent stepper, an arm bike, a stair climber, a row machine, treadmills, and Cybex Arc Trainers.
They also have a nice variety of weight machines most of which are Cybex addressing all major muscle groups. There is also an entire room of free weight stations and benches. They have a variety of hand weights as well ranging from one pound to twenty.
I have found the staff and other members to be very friendly and helpful. I would encourage anyone in the area to join the fitness club and support the town's park district. I believe it to be a huge asset to this...

Even though our party was paid for first, because of a mistake by park district staff the other party was given the party room and our party was shoved into the little room with the little bouncy house. The girl at the desk said because they paid first, they got the room. When it was pointed out to her that our party paid first, she said she misspoke. She did not have a clue how to handle the matter and had to be prompted to call a supervisor. The party was confirmed in the last week for 2:00 p.m., although it was confirmed for both parties and each person was told that they could not start setting up until 1:30 p.m. My take from this event is if you are having your party here, make sure that your paperwork is filled out correctly and you have a copy to bring with you on the day...
Read moreSmall but decent building offering workout options to Wilmington. Unfortunately with surrounding towns of the same size offering much nicer options both in gyms and park districts it seems too little too late. I remember Wilmington having a pool as a kid and I wish they still did. They need better facilities to attract the kind of people who are more active in programs and within the community. Use some of this new intermodal money and build a new park district building with modern amenities, day care, programs and activities. Care about...
