The Berlin Stop & Shop is mediocre at best. It's generally a clean store, yet somehow, from the moment you walk in, you're greeted with an unwelcoming scent. I haven't figured out if this is Produce, Seafood, or the Meat Dept. Maybe it's a combo of all three?! You then stroll the aisles of absurdly overpriced items until you get to the registers, where you've won the Lotto if there is more than one human working a register. Kudos to the new self check area (personally, not a fan because there's always something with those machines, but the update is appreciated regardless of personal preference). Over the past several months, I've boycotted Stop & Shop in Berlin, short of the last-minute necessities. This boycott came as a result of the aforementioned things, as well as a series of spoiled products over the last few months prior to my boycott. Ok, it happens. It is super inconvenient and far more often often than I've experienced before, but not THE deal breaker. There's some of the nicest fellas in the Deli Dept. Some even wear gloves for sanitary purposes, and I am here for that! Except. When you scratch your face, adjust your belt, and pick up garbage off the floor with those very same gloves on AND then proceed to handle Deli items as if those gloves are clean. That's where I draw the line, folks. Not just once. Every. Time. Said. Employee. Works.. In my opinion, Stop & Shop Berlin has become complacent because they are the only grocery store in town. Do better Stop & Shop. (This is not a review reflecting all employees of Stop & Shop Berlin. Many are lovely and do...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI have a Stop & Shop store card and have recently been using this location as my primary grocery store. I always find really great deals and they also carry all of the things I particularly like. Also my boyfriend has celiac disease so it is always difficult to find products that are truly GF and that also taste great! I have found with Stop & Shop that they have an amazing section solely dedicated to GF/Organic/Vegan/Vegetarian. There are multiple isles and also a whole freezer section. They carry multiple brands so there is always a great selection to choose from and nothing is too extreme in price. I have found some interesting and tasty treatsš that my boyfriend loves and myself included! I noticed on one occasion after shopping that because I did two transactions one with cash and the other on card that my store card was not swiped for both...it has said on the bottom of the receipt that I could have saved $10 if I had a store card. I was slightly bummed that I had lost out on $10! So a few days later I took the receipt back and brought it to the cashier who kindly scanned my card and promptly gave me my $10! I am always impressed with the high quality of service in this store and I surely hope the employees are being paid respectively for their hard work. I know this is a long review, but I wanted to capture all the wonderful things I have experienced myself inside this particular...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreOverwhelmingly mid-tier. The good parts: Fresh food is usually very fresh and good quality. Almost always in stock. Mostly logical layout. Mostly clean looking. The bad parts: Very unhelpful staff (across the board, I'm not exaggerating at all), which is weird since they're union and should be happy about their job. Loud, and also very bad music sometimes. Just get rid of the music, for God's sake! We're there to shop, not dance. Only 1 or 2 registers open, usually, and the rest is self checkout. I'm not ringing out my own groceries - I don't work for you. Don't make me laugh. The stupid robot that always gets in my way or creeps up on me when I'm minding my own business. The thing gives me the creeps. The oversized roomba should be replaced with a human being, as I'm sure there are plenty of poor people in the area that would love working there. Again, the registers. You have like 30 of them. Put people in them. I'm not ringing out my own stuff. Period. Fix these things...
