This supermarket has existed in one form or another for over ten years; several different supermarket chains have rebranded the store. It's very convenient for many people as there are many housing developments in the area.
I have very fond memories growing up and going to this supermarket as a child with my mom. The bakery department used to have a thing where children could get a free cookie per visit if one asked someone behind the counter. I used to eat pieces of bread too when I would ride around in the cart as my mom was grocery shopping.
Now that I'm an adult and have experienced many types of supermarkets over the years I can say that this place is really average. I haven't been here in quite some time and after recently visiting I have this to say: compared to various ShopRites in North Jersey there are some major differences between those and this one.
First off, this ShopRite is clean, the staff are friendly and helpful and the food decent. However, there's nothing that really stands out. There are a typical variety of goods which are found in most supermarkets but the ShopRite brand of food here is underwhelming in my opinion. The bakery is ok but there are not many choices when it comes to bread and there's not much of a buffet to get hot prepared food.
The ShopRite in North Jersey I've been going to for the past two years has delicious bread & buffet food. There's a better selection of goods as well more variety in things overall such as more produce options and speciality foods.
There appears to have been some renovations at this particular ShopRite recently in the form of a small cafeteria which I haven't tried yet.
My biggest gripe with this ShopRite is the bakery. Their bread is only ok and there's not much variety. And the store itself doesn't really carry niche or speciality foods so some obscure recipes can be hard to make. I know this is not a wholefoods or Farmers market but certain items found in other supermarkets are not here.
Perhaps I've gotten used to exceptionally nice ShopRites. Overall this particular ShopRite is ok but there are much nicer supermarkets. It is by no means bad or inferior in any way, it's just average.
With how popular this place is it would be nice if they emulated the nicer ShopRites/supermarkets but that may or may not be a major undertaking.
If there was higher quality food and a better selection of produce and food products this place would get five...
Read moreShoprite of Sicklerville is clearly an aging store. That being said, it is well organized and designed.
More concerning is that many of the products that Shoprite sell have ingredients, chemicals, and unnecessary additives that are linked to cancer, and other diseases.
This leads one to believe that beyond any initial USDA standards, Wakefern Food Corporation (which is the parent company of Shoprite) does not properly screen the products that it allows the public to ingest. Many products have "Green Leaf" labels that would deceive you into thinking they're healthy when they are not. Many of the food products have astronomical amounts of sodium and sugar. There are not enough low sodium, heart healthy, or hormone free products available for sale.
The staff at Shoprite of Sicklerville don't seem happy. This may be because as a corporation, Shoprite/Wakefern pays their stockers a paltry $8.96 an hour, and their cashiers and CSAs are paid only a few cents more an hour. I would be unhappy also.
If we are to believe that the Wakefern Corporation cares about our communities as a whole, then we need to hold them accountable for the unhealthy food products, and household products that they allow to make it into our homes and our bodies. Stop poisoning...
Read moreAnyone else notice that some of the people that work here act like they're doing extra if they have to do their job? I don't know if the shoprite from home service is set up to be able to charge people for things that aren't being provided or to be a actual service to be competitive in the grocery industry. Numerous times ive been charged for things that were not in my cart. Accidents happen right? Same thing I use to say but time and time again talking to an employee that acts like them doing their job is something extra your asking of them. All it would take for upper management to see this would be simulate a CS call and observe. Mystery solved!! People who have jobs but don't wanna work will poison a business and I've watched it happen in front of my eyes with this shoprite. I'm tired of it. Might try target's groceries and see if it's any better. BTW my refund for things that weren't provided to me but i was charged for will take 2-3 business days. Thats twice as long as it took to place the order and pick it up and 1000x longer then it took them to...
