Byerlys, before Lunds acquired it, was an incredible and luxurious store with the highest quality products made in store every day and friendly, attentive service. Today after Trey Lund has wrung every dime out of costs to maximize profits, you still pay a premium for products but the quality and service just aren't there.
A few examples from my final shopping trip ever at Byerlys in Woodbury last night:
One of the two burger patties I got from the meat department were so old that it was brown through the middle and fell apart and there is no way the butcher didn't see it when he picked it. All of the pre-packaged wraps available in the deli department were out of date by a day (and with how old L&B products already are, I've learned never to take the chance), pricing on a few common items I often pick up were much more for the same thing than at Target nearby - Alexia onion rings were $3 more, a Stouffers Chicken bake dinner was $4 more, and Lean Cuisine lunches were $1+ more. The cashier and bagger (which are earning top union wages) barely glanced at me and didn't bother to thank me for spending $200 on three half empty bags of groceries.
In the past when you shopped at Byerlys you knew you were paying more but getting the best. Now you pay much more but get Walmart level service, if even that. Take my advice, if you want to save money, go to Target or similar and if you want top quality and don't mind paying a little more, go to Kowalskis or Whole Foods (which now oddly is much less expensive...
Read moreThis is one of my favorite stores to shop in. I go out of my way to shop here as the employees are very helpful, cheerful and courteous. They have outstanding food prepared to perfection when one it too tired to cook. So happy to see them in Woodbury! Thanks for the outstanding service! In response to the gentleman who feels their prices are "outlandish", you need to take a step back and consider you are paying for a much higher quality of food. You can't compare Byerl's to Aldi and expect the two are even close to being the same type of store with the same quality. Aldi's produce is about the worst there is with Walmart taking a close second. Cub is okay. Byerly's prices are based on quality. Kowalski's is comparable to Byerly's and their prices are nearly the same. One is paying for not only quality but the great service they provide! I am willing to pay for that, I know I am getting the best bang...
Read moreThis was my first visit to this location and I was a little disappointed. I was looking for a few did options I am used to at the much smaller St Paul location and could not find what I was looking for. I tried approaching 2 employees to ask them but they were enmeshed in a conversation and then walked away after making eye contact with me. I finally gave up and chose another option. Then I headed to check out but there was no one there besides another customer. We both waited and waited. I set my items down and purchased a beverage from Caribou then resumed waiting. The other customer eventually left. I made a quick run to the ladies room and returned. Finally, someone returned and actually checked out the customers that had lined up without any explanation or apology. If I hadn't had plans to meet friends there I wouldn't have been so patient and I'm unlikely to make plans at this location again...
