As a seller, Iād give this place 6 stars if I could! Iād been looking for a place near GR that might buy some Pokemon cards I had. I extensively read reviews and owner responses if any were available for pretty much every establishment and decided upon All-Star.
Iām glad I did, because the staff were all friendly, helpful, honest, informative and more than fair with their offer(s). So much so that I came back and I plan on going again in the future. I came in fully expecting to get at least a tiny bit lowballed, but it didnāt happen! They clearly donāt want to waste your time or theirs and donāt sacrifice their CX while maintaining that attitude.
Jordan was a pleasure to do business with, and gave me helpful info/feedback regarding card grading, etc. His experience and knowledge shows, along with genuine care for the customer and maintaining the honesty and integrity of the store.
He explained to me the āwhyā as to the offers which made perfect sense to me. I do some reselling myself, albeit not in the card/gaming niche.
I feel many of the negative reviews from those trying to sell their cards come from a place of not understanding what they have (condition, market fluctuations/saturation, etc.). Iād be comfortable guaranteeing that a bad experience is not the norm, and often as a result of unrealistic expectations.
If you have a card that you see selling for $x online or in a price guide, do not expect that to be a realistic offer. The employees will show you exactly what, if anything, impacts its value if you ask.
Also, letās be honest; if it was that easy to get top $ on your cards online (you as the seller direct to the buyer), why arent you doing so? Itās expensive, takes time, and requires knowledge of the industry. If youāre comparing your card to a slabbed and graded cardā¦stop. The world of grading cards is nitpicky and expensive, so do your due diligence and research a bit of what you have, AS IS, before you go in.
When I came in both times I came prepared with a list of realistic current values if I were to sell them myself. Both times, the offers were more than fair and easy for me to accept. I could have made more selling them on eBay or TCG myself, but again, time and money/time is money (& for how thorough/willing to answer questions they are, both my trips were quick & painless) ĀÆ(ć)/ĀÆ
I wasnāt lowballed at all, in fact, they opted to not purchase some cards at or slightly above a $5 price point for whatever reason. I didnāt ask, but as I plan on returning, Iāll save em for later. I donāt think their offer would be matched elsewhere nor gained some of the knowledge Jordan provided answering my questions.
Also, this is a local family run business (I think; correct me if Iām wrong). They simply canāt buy every card or collection with lower profit margins when they have to take time and money to clear out their back stock.
If thatās the case theyāll likely give you advice on alternative stores in the area that may be able to do business with you. If you think the offer is low, or they do not give you an offer, do not take it as a personal jab. Try another establishment or try to sell on eBay.
Again, Iām glad I took the bitter reviews with a grain of salt, & hope this is helpful to those looking to get a great offer on their...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreStopped in today for the first time. Iāve been to many TCG stores across the state. Few have wowed me quite like All-Star Sports.
Firstly, the staff are incredible. I was on a first name basis with Jason, Jordan, Tyler, and Eric (the owner) within about five minutes. They were very kind and welcoming, and Eric even offered to talk about his philosophy of owing a game store with me. He was very open about his priority of building a community over selling products. He doesnāt just value customers, he values people, and clearly loves making people smile. This is exemplified by his infectious and genuine laugh. Secondly, the store was the cleanest TCG store Iāve ever seen. If youāve been around the block, youāre probably familiar with these kinds of places having a noxious odor. Not All-Star Sports. The place was pristine. It was clearly regularly cleaned and the building smelled like a nice hotel with a faint hint of card-stock, exactly how it should. As I said earlier, Iāve been to many TCG stores around Michigan. After today, my top three easily sits as; -All-Star Games -Griffinās Rest -Lantern Games
On the logistical side, they had a rather expansive and well organized selection of singles you could buy. On top of that, it was all priced very fairly! Singles appeared to all be at TCG low for cards over ten dollars, otherwise they were priced much better than their TCG low. They also sold snacks and drinks. As a heavy water drinker, I was quite stoked to find they had a large reserve of cold water at 50 cents a bottle (some other stores will charge you as much as $2 for a bottle of water!)
I stopped in on a Monday night and there was a decent crowd of people, on a Monday! Thatās a weekday people, not Friday Night Magic, not a prerelease. A Monday. Got in a pod for commander almost immediately. Canāt wait to see what Fridays are like. They even have a discord for their community to keep in touch (not the first, but this is certainly uncommon and theirs is definitely well moderated)
This all ties back in to the fact that I believe Eric was genuine in his philosophy of his business model. I will absolutely be visiting and doing business here way more often. I definitely suggest stopping by here if you ever get the chance. It can make your week...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI've spent a good number of paydays ripping packs from this store over the past couple of months. It became a rush to spend hundreds chasing that feeling of being a kid pulling something good and being able to afford it. While there is sort of a negative experience that follows, don't get me wrong, this is a great shop to buy from and discuss products with. They're knowledgeable when it comes to making a sale about prospect sports cards to collect and it's fun to discuss stuff like that with them. However as many of other reviews attest to, be forewarned if you approach about buying cards that you've pulled and believe to be valuable. There's a clear discrepancy between their knowledge and their desire to make a profit when it comes to appraising specific items. Outside of the standard that they're only going to give you 50% or so of comps you find on the web and half of it will be store credit which is fine and expected, they'll say and do things like if you're selling a raw card attempt to tell you your card will not grade high if sent to PSA when there's no realistic evidence of that. All of a sudden that same energy they have getting you to buy and rip the packs like "Try to find this guy!" becomes very negative when you do hit the big card and talk to them about offers. I had short prints of some of the biggest names people are buying from every sport (Victor Wembanyama, CJ Stroud and Caitlin Clark) and not to disrespect an employee by calling him out, he claimed they were going to end up in a bargain bin and they couldn't take a loss on an offer. Some were evaluated as base cards when they were hologramed or chrome refractors. In my opinion the market may be getting overflooded with those but a numbered card or rare insert or auto should still hold up. I made an agreement so this is on me, but next thing my cards were in the display case for a good $40 each more than I received from them.
There's no hard feelings and I know that the situation was all a matter of perspective which is why I'm not going 1 star or anything because they are good guys who just enjoy sports like I do and I appreciated recently finding them one day as part of getting back into collecting. It's just the selling that I advise to proceed...
