Went for the first time this afternoon because I have a 1980 Bulova Oceanographer that i inherited from my father. The gold plating on the back of the watch has started to corrode so I searched for a place in Zionsville who may be able to repair it. Midwest came up as the most recommended place in the area.
When I entered I was greeted at the front desk promptly and when I explained what I was interested in doing they went and asked for assistance from a gentleman that had more experience with watches. He was polite and courteous and the conversation was pleasant. However the person that introduced us stated that I was interested in trying to polish it. He stated that it probably wasn't possible since the plating was already coming off. I said that I had figured that but was actually interested in having the case itself re-plated.
It was at this point that the conversation took a sour turn as instead of telling me that they couldn't do it or that it would be x amount of dollars, instead he stated that it would likely be as much as $100 and wouldn't be worth it. Unfortunately I didnt ask whether it would be worth it to him and perhaps it was a misunderstanding in that what he meant was they don't offer that service because it's typically not worth it to most people. However, he didnt ask what I would be willing to pay, which oddly enough I was thinking at least $200 to do it. I don't know if he assumed that $100 was going to be too much for me based on the casual clothes I was wearing but I didn't like the assumption and it left a sour taste in my mouth. All he had to say was "sure it can be done, this is what it will cost." I probably would have handed over my credit card on the spot. However I will not be...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreOn Christmas Eve-Eve this year I awoke with a severely injured ring finger (basketball gameš¤Ŗ) and headed to the ER to have the ring removed and my finger examined.
The urgent care ER had trouble, trying several different tools to remove the ring, but to no avail. I decided to call the jeweler. They said I could head right over, they would take care of me. Within a few moments I was in Daveās good hands. He had been in the back gathering his tools, awaiting my arrival. A lot of people donāt know Dave, because heās in the back resizing and setting all the jewelry. He is was an amazingly kind man, full of expertise. He worked diligently for about 30 minutes to carefully remove my ring in several places, always checking to see if I āneeded a break.ā When at last the ring was cut, I had to hug Dave, who said, āa hug is all the payment I need.ā
So grateful for these people and their kindness.
And six months when I am able to put my ring back on, I will be heading there to get it...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI very rarely leave reviews. I have to share my experience. We have purchased several items from Midwest. Diamond rings, diamond earrings, etc. Because of personal circumstances we had to sell a few of these items back. I was appalled at the amount of money that we lost. I certainly did not expect to get back what I paid, or even close, however, I believe receiving $1100 (That included me selling a brand new Louis Vuitton purse and wallet)for a ring that cost $4500 is a bit much. The diamond earrings were a forth of what we paid as well. I have also taken many estate items in. And then today I brought in a pair of Cartier vintage sunglasses. These sell USED on the eBay for no less than $800. I was offered $90. As I understand people need to make a profit It is disheartening to see how much of a profit is being made. Especially when one is a...
