This is such a hidden Gem!!!
We saw so many cars when we arrived so we thought it would be packed... We arrived at 10am, yet there was no Q, and we were in, in less than 5 min from arriving at the entrance.
If you have a weekend off and want to spend a family day to remember, don't think twice... It's such a big and beautiful place to go to. So much to do and see and there is fun for everyone, young and old. I'm a smoker, and I always look at how many stubs I can see in a place like this, and I honestly didn't see a single cigarette stub... All the smokers would kill the bud and walk to a trash can.
It's so clean, so happy, so absolutely fun. I can't recommend this place enough... I didn't know, but when we got there I saw that you can rent or reserve a hut where you and friends can have a BQQ!! Next time, I'll definitely do that. We paid 20/21€ entrance on a Sunday per person and it was worth every cent. It's genuinely fun for kids and adults.
This is what a funpark should be like.
We stayed until 18:00 and we still didn't see everything nor did we do the same ride twice.
Our favourite was the tractor that takes you around a garden wich was amazing for my 3 year old because they had veggies growing and had names next to them so you could see what they were, it's such a nice experience!!

Not cheap, but a good experience overall.
We were there on a sunny Saturday, so the park was packed! The park’s facilities are well-maintained and clean. Restrooms were easily accessible and tidy, and there were plenty of spots to rest and have a snack.
It seems that there is something for older kids, but not really much to do for infants. The staff members were relatively approachable, but we received false information on two different occasions - we were sent to a certain ride by the info desk employees, but we were turned down by their colleagues operating the ride because our daughter was too small. Oh well, not a pleasant experience to walk across the park in 30 degree weather for nothing. At least there were plenty of animals to pet and feed.

A wonderful amusement park for kids! My 3.8-year-old son absolutely loved it. There are plenty of cute rides to choose from, and parents can easily pick what’s suitable for their children. The animals in the park seem to be well taken care of. The place is clean, beautifully decorated, and very well maintained. The food court inside offers a variety of delicious options, which was a pleasant surprise. Most importantly, the staff are polite, attentive to safety, and very caring towards the children and visitors.
This is definitely a place our family will visit again!

Wir wollten etwas Abstand vom Lärm der Stadt bekommen und etwas Ruhe tanken. Da fiel uns der Hessenpark ein. Da wir nur ein paar Stunden dort verbringen wollten, haben wir nicht den Eintritt für den ganzen Hessenpark bezahlt (11,00 Euro für Erwachsene und 1,00 Euro für Kinder ab 6 Jahren. Kinder unter 6 Jahren kommen gratis in den Hessenpark), sondern uns nur Richtung des wunderschönen Marktplatzes bewegt. Dafür mussten wir keinen Eintritt zahlen. Viele der Geschäfte waren zwar geschlossen, aber bei dem wunderschönen Wetter tat das der Erholung und Ruhe keinen Abbruch. In der Backstube von Markus Schmidt, wo das Brot noch auf traditionelle Art hergestellt wird, (aus Sauerteig, 95% Roggenmehl und 5% Weißmehl) duftet es nach frischem Brot, Brötchen und köstlichen Kuchen. Wir haben uns für Sauerteigbrötchen entschieden. Die Brötchen fallen deutlich größer aus, als wir es sonst beim Bäcker gewohnt sind.
Den Kuchen konnten wir dann im Wirtshaus Zum Adler kosten, wo wir zwischen Blechkuchen in folgenden Sorten wählen konnten: Käsekuchen, Kirsch-Streusel und Apfel-Streusel. Dazu gab es guten Kaffee. Im Wirtshaus kann man wählen, auf der Terrasse zu sitzen, im Gastraum oder im Biergarten. Sehr gemütlich.
Das Plätschern des Brunnens in der Mitte des Marktplatzes, der blaue Himmel mit Sonnenschein, zusammen mit dem Vogelgezwitscher und der Ruhe auf dem Marktplatz (es war recht wenig los, weil es unter der Woche war, nur
eine Schulklasse ) fühlte sich wie Urlaub an.
Der gesamte Hessenpark ist 65 Hektar groß und liegt etwa 30 km von Frankfurt am Main entfernt. Je nach Region und Zeit lebten die Hessen ganz verschieden und auch das Handwerk wurde früher noch anders ausgeführt. Der Hessenpark trägt dem Rechnung, indem er in verschiedene "Baugruppen" eingeteilt wurde, die sich nach der Region richtet, in der die Gebäude früher standen. Es hat uns fasziniert, dass Gebäude aus dem 16. und 17. Jahrhundert an ursprünglicher Stelle abgebaut und den 1970er und 1980er Jahren im Hessenpark wieder aufgebaut wurden,
um sie zu erhalten. Das alte Kopfsteinpflaster ist allerdings für Familien mit Kinderwagen und gehbehinderte Personen sehr schwierig, weil man oft zwischen den Steinen mit den Rädern von Kinderwagen, Rollator oder Rollstuhl hängen bleibt, aber mit etwas Anstrengung geht es. Wenn man außer dem Marktplatz noch andere Bereiche des Hessenparks besuchen möchte, gibt es 2 Möglichkeiten von hinten an die Häuser über neu gepflasterte Wege zu kommen, die nicht aus Kopfsteinpflaster bestehen. Auch bei den Toiletten wurde an Personen mit Einschränkungen beim Laufen gedacht, denn es gibt verschiedene WCs für Rollstuhl- und Rollatornutzer. Man sollte nur daran denken, dass die Häuser früher meist Eingänge hatten, die über ein paar Stufen am Eingang erreichbar waren, daher nicht barrierefrei zugänglich sind - also nicht mit Kinderwagen, Rollator oder Rollstuhl.
Seit 2011 gilt übrigens auf dem gesamten Gelände des Freilichtmuseums ein absolutes Rauchverbot, um die historischen Gebäude und die Natur vor Brandgefahr zu schützen.
Wir haben ausnahmslos freundliche und hilfsbereite Mitarbeiter des Hessenparks getroffen und schöne Stunden im Hessenpark verbracht. Wir können es nur empfehlen, sich mal einen Tag Zeit für den Besuch des Hessenparks zu nehmen.

It's a must go if you like want to see some German architecture from 1500s to 1950s, love nature and animals, and rural crafts.
It's big, so you may consider spending all least 4+ hours.
There are explanation tablets for architecture and the Marketplatz is a has a good collection of it.
You can enter many of the buildings, some of which are equipped with history of several inventions, like medicine or telecommunications.
I couldn't see the crafts in work, only their halls. Would be nice to see someone actually performing.
For crafts' workshop, you have to check their website and make an appointment prior to visiting. It might be costly, and intensive (5+ hours)
There are sheep (you can pet them), pigs, goats, and other animals on the farm museum.

Super interesting! It's an air park, there are lots of small old German houses and inside of every of them museums are. You need to buy a ticket and then you are free to stay there as long as you want to. There is a Cafe, bakery, small shops etc. where you can have a rest and eat. There is also a small lake. What is interesting that all houses are built like in different parts of Hessen and it's written. F.e. You can see tilling roofs in the northem part and straw ones in tne southem. Super interesting. I would recomend to go earlier cos after 17-18 all houses (museums, shops, Cafe etc) start to close and the last bus is at 18.30!!! Be careful. Very good place!

The Hessenpark is a wonderfully maintained centuries old village. In addition, they disassemble old homes from other parts of the province and bring them here for reassembly and preservation. The park is on a large land area, likely over a thousand acres. Think historic Williamsburg without trying to be touristy. There are craftsmen on site, and certain processes like ink dying are shown. We were there in summer and fruits were ripe and you could pick cherries and other fruit from the trees. The hiking trail takes you around the site. Don’t miss the windmill. You can climb up inside and see how it works.

I loved it! This place truely takes you to the past. Houses are beautiful, everything is well organized. You can enter in almost every house and learn about the history of this part of Germany. It took me 3 hours to tour the whole museum park. Close to the entrance you can buy coffee and pastries, even bread (only accepting cash). I tried Apfelkuchen and it was yummy. The lady was also very sweet and polite. I only didn't like the shop with souvenirs, and lady who worked there wasn't very nice. The bus stop is very close to the museum. Overall, amazing experience. Peaceful, educative, beautiful!

I visited during the brief late-March availability. The weather was good and lent itself to a fine visit. The grounds are well maintained and clean. There is plenty of open space for children to run around and burn energy, the entirety of the Fort is Baby-stroller/ wheelchair accessible with a few minor exceptions in the buildings. There exists a Cafe (closed during my visit) and well-maintained public restrooms. The Fort itself has numerous displays of Roman and ancient Germanic artifacts. The displays are narrated in both German and English. Good information, good artifacts and displays show quite well what this site (and several others in Germany) were like in appearance and operation/ purpose. I very much look forward to visiting again. The surrounding area has a full-fledged restaurant and near-limitless hiking trails. The forest has suffered somewhat from invasive beetle damage and is being "recycled" ; lots of downed trees and disrupted terrain but still quite enjoyable to hike through. PARKING can be a total nightmare; be patient and recognize that the parking area is pretty much a cul-de-sac. It terminates on the back-side of a slope and is very painful to turn around in. Try to park BEFORE the main entrance if possible.

For Ancient Rome aficionados, this place will blow your mind. Roman ruins, reconstructions, displays and ancient artefacts abound. You can easily spend an entire morning or afternoon here, wandering through the reconstructed fort. Bearing in mind it was built prior to the Great War, so the architecture reflects archaeological thinking from the late Nineteenth Century. However that does not detract from the poignant atmosphere of the place. There are some excellent displays on ancient Roman life and the magnificent horse head from an equestrian statue, possibly of Augustus found nearby. The staff are super welcoming and helpful and the taverna offers some tasty examples of antique Roman fare. In close proximity to the fort you can see the Limes and a reconstruction of the frontier palisade, as well as the site of the Roman outpost that preceded the larger fortress. Well worth a visit if you’re interested in ancient history.

Me, my wife and two kids ages 2 and 3 had a good time here. There's a decent amount of parking out front within a short walk to the entrance. The gift shop is small but has some good stuff in it and is also where you purchase entrance tickets. The place itself is pretty neat to see and takes a couple hours to walk around and see if you take your time. There's also a small museum inside with various artifacts from the time period and some information about the area and Saalzburg itself. There's a restaurant too, with indoor and outdoor seating and a decent selection of food and drinks. Bathrooms are located inside the gate, with no options before paying to enter. Some things have English descriptions but many do not in case yiu only know English. Overall a great place to spend a few hours, I only wish there were more pieces in the museum.

Wir hatten einen wunderschönen, erlebnisreichen, leckeren und fast normalen Tag.
Hintergrund ist, dass mein Partner seit einiger Zeit auf einen Rollstuhl angewiesen ist.
Wir hatten die Saalburg für den Römischen Abend (nebst anschließendem Dinner nach römischen Rezepten), besucht.
Bereits im Vorfeld war die Kommunikation und nachfragen (🧑🏽🦽), top!
Der Einlass:
Von Beginn an alle Mitarbeiter und Mitwirkende super freundlich, zuvorkommend und sympathisch! Auch der Koch hat uns unglaublich nett begrüßt.
Die Führung:
Eine kleine private Führung für den Abend, was den Druck raus nimmt, weil auf jede Frage eingegangen wird. Vorab gab es im Hof ein Weinempfang (natürlich römischer Art) und was kleines zu essen. Die Damen haben das klasse gemacht, humorvoll, interessant und sehr sympathisch. Sie sind außerdem auf die Behinderung eingegangen, was wir nicht oft erleben!
Das Essen:
Einfach wow! Bitte geht vorbei, ob der Führung oder einfach so. Der Koch, das Team… alles. Gesprächig, sympathisch, zuvorkommend, humorvoll und das Essen war unfassbar gut!
Es wurde nicht nur darauf geachtet, wo wir aufgrund unserer Situation gut sitzen können (wir wurden extra nochmal vorab im Hof gefragt), sondern es war ingesamt ein unglaublich gelungener Abend. Der Service war spitze.
Bitte lasst Liebe und auch Trinkgeld für das Team dar!
Das Ende:
Wir wurden von einer Mitarbeiterin mit Laternen zum Parkplatz geführt. Sie begleitete uns sogar zum, Auto und wir hatten noch ein tolles Gespräch. Sie hat noch viel von zukünftigen Veranstaltungen erzählt (also Werbung gemacht - und das zurecht!). So eine Mitarbeitern kann man sich nur wünschen. Das - und alles andere - bleibt absolut im Kopf!
Wir waren einige Tage später nochmal da. Der Herr an der Kasse, der uns diesmal während der normalen Öffnungszeiten begrüßte, war selbstredend auch so nett und zuvorkommend, wie der Rest des Teams, die wir zuvor schon kennengelernt haben.
Man hat sich an uns erinnert und war genauso höflich. Es ist wirklich JEDEM zu empfehlen. Bitte kommt vorbei; wir kommen auch wieder!

Roman fortress rebuild over 100 years ago by order of the German Kaiser. Here you can step back into the past and experience life in a Roman border fort. It is a little difficult to reach with public transport, bus no 5 from Bad Homburg train station comes here, but it only runs 4 times a day. You can also get here with Uber or Bolt from Bad Homburg. There are many trails through the forest that you can reach places like Hessenpark or Bad Homburg in an hour on foot. Also, be careful to take into account the fact that there is no phone signal here.
