I've been looking forward to going to Astonish for a long time. Their photos of their deserts on social media look delicious and I had high expectations. Unfortunately I was disappointed by the overall experience.
We were sat next to a window which had a broken pain of glass so all the bugs were coming in and the table had a puddle of sticky sauce left over from the last dinners. We ordered coffees and a "Long Time No See" (a shared plate with 5 deserts). When the coffees arrived there was no sugar on the able and we had to call the waitress back to ask for sugar. Then the desert arrived. The waitress gave us one plate, with two folks and one napkin. This was a shared platter of messy chocolate sauce. One paper napkin between two was going to be a struggle.
All five deserts were delicious and unique however the whole experience was let down by poor service and substandard surroundings. Going to a dessert cafe is a treat and should be a special experience. The food at Astonish is special however the whole experience doesn't live up...
Read moreSmall shop decorated with its quirks. It has quite a variety of items on the menu with savoury food as well. But have only ordered the sweets there. The presentation is well done. Great effort put into it. However the flavours are not quite there. The Thai milk tea waffles are really thick and bit dry. Need a lot of sauce to finish them. It's quite a big portion to make it worth the price. It's basically a meal itself. Popcorn was stale. And I don't know what that piece of stale thin cracker looking thing was.. It was inedible. The strudel creme brulee was interesting invention, but very little strudel bit. Flavour is not bad at least. The taro ice cream was delicious. But the donuts were so dry and unpleasant to eat. A big hit and miss with the menu items.. But they look like they make good...
Read moreI had an unpleasant experience at Astonish recently. Took my mum and husband there for dessert after a pretty big dinner. Between the 3 of us, we ordered 2 desserts. The waitress was quite rude as she informed us they had a “minimum policy of one order per person”. We asked her why and were met with an even ruder stony silence. It was honestly like interacting with a PMS-ing teenager. Needless to say, we left pretty quickly
It’s not like we turned up there as a group of 6 schoolkids who wanted to share a single dessert. This kind of tone deaf response to customers is inappropriate. I would appreciate if the management made more of an effort to train their staff, and also were not so rigid in their rules. You’re in the F&B business - if you can’t run it, there’s plenty of other places I can get soggy...
