General Havelock — Restaurant in Adelaide

My mum went to the Havelock with her friend for her birthday lunch on Friday. All was well until she went to buy a glass of sparkling wine (Bird in Hand). The girl behind the bar emptied the end of a bottle into her glass before topping it up with a new bottle. Mum went back to her table with her friend and tried the wine to find it was quite flat. Her friend tried to return it, however the man behind the bar refused and stated that it was a new bottle. Next time mum went in for another round, she told the man behind the bar that it wasn't actually a fresh bottle. He acted like a total smart arse to her and talked about replaying CCTV footage. She backed down, not wanting to cause a fuss, but what a shocking display of customer service. How much would it have cost you to pour a fresh glass of wine? Expect no consistency from The Havelock. I swing by here about once a month for the Monday schnitzel special which in all fairness is one of the best deals in Adelaide. Although almost every time I’m here, the schnitzel changes. Whether it be the side salad, chips, sauce, or flat out the schnitzel itself, it is rare to see the dish stay the same for more than a month. Maybe there’s just a new head chef that often? Today everything has changed. Different schnitzels, less flavour. Salad is wildly overdressed, mushroom sauce tastes more like french onion soup. One of the less pleasant food experiences I’ve had at The Havelock. What will next time be like, I wonder?

I can't thank the team at the General Havelock enough for making my 40th birthday party, such an amazing and memorable night! From the very beginning, they went out of their way to accommodate me, helping with everything from drinks to selecting the perfect food options. It truly made a difference.

On the night, the service was exceptional—nothing was too much trouble, and all the staff were incredibly kind and helpful. They made sure that every moment was enjoyable, and I felt genuinely looked after.
