Hains & Co — Restaurant in Adelaide

Love this place, a great atmosphere and I continue to tell all those who will listen to pop in. Last night my wife and I popped in for a wine. Only myself and one other chap at the bar. Now the bearded barman is clearly one cool dude who has a certain flare when pouring drinks but while I waited approx 6 minutes for him to prepare two drinks (one beer and a spirit and mixer) I was thinking, I'm on day shift tomorrow and at this rate I'm gonna be late!!! I then asked for a Sauvignon Blanc and I was told that although they had a Sauvignon Blanc, at that time they had two bottles of Chardonnay open so would I like a Chardonnay. Mm what to do. No thanks, but could I have 2 glasses of Sauvignon Blanc. No, came the response with apologies and an explanation that the owners 'policy', strictly enforced, is to have have a maximum of two open bottles of wine at any one time. I could of course buy a bottle of Sauvignon Blanc but until a team of Chardonnay drinking crowns supporters visited the bar to consume the two open bottles I was out of luck. I politely declined and left. Now I'm sure the owner has a good reason for this and I discussed it with several other bartenders/managers at several other establishments close by and between us we couldn't come up with an answer. I'm sure there is a perfectly good explanation that I, as a non Chardonnay drinking Crows supporter would understand. I will be back, after the Crows supporters have left...

I like this bar, and also enjoy the Gin in here. A cocktail called “Pink Elephant “ is my favourite, if my memory is correct. But can you turn the music volume down at 02:58 AM ???

I understand that as a Bar, the business hours are different from the other business.

Now I will leave here in couple weeks, so for the memories I had in your bar, could you turn the music volume down after 12:00 AM? Please!!

I need to sleep in a apartment which is very near to your bar.

I tried to call you guys but no one answered me, after the call, someone skipped to a hard rock song and turn the volume higher.

I always feel happy when I think of my friends and I had good time in your bar, since October 2016 until now. Your bar has witnessed the young dumb things I have done.

I have changed the evaluation to 4 stars, I hope that the business of Hains & Co can get better and better.

The diligent decor, dim lighting and novelty as a pro-cigar venue are exactly what make this spot a destination in Adelaide.

The food pricing, offering and service, however, leave something to desire, although the drinks menu was a competitive reflection of other bars in the area.

It must be mentioned that their take on halloumi is bloody awesome. 👌

Service unfortunately fell short from the moment we entered 'til we left—with barely a greeting on arrival, a blunt and unwelcoming attitude from the serving bartender, and a cheeseboard which was dropped on the table without so much as crackers, cutlery or explanation. In fairness, the young and enthusiastic staff member quickly rectified this once we grabbed their attention.

In short, I would offer that this is a top spot to stop by, witness and perhaps imbibe, but maybe not somewhere that you'd lock down in for a long session—unless, of course, you've a penchant for...
