An Unforgettable Fusion Feast at Peel St Restaurant! Ambience & First Impression: The moment we stepped into Peel St at 9 Peel Street, I was struck by the industrial‑chic vibe—exposed brick walls, a long concrete bar, and an open kitchen buzzing with energy. The décor is relaxed yet stylish, setting the perfect scene for a fun, communal dining vibe. Vibe & Atmosphere: The place was packed midday on a weekday, full of chatter and clinking glasses. Despite the bustle, the service felt effortless and genuine—casually dressed staff hovering with confidently recommended plates and drinks. Food Highlights: We began with olives and focaccia—how delicious—and we devoured them! Then came the banana blossom chicken—tender and fragrant, served with chilli jam and coconut salad. Every mouthful was layered with textures and spice. Perhaps the standout was the pork belly with prawns, peanuts, and Asian greens—a masterful balance of rich, sweet, nutty, and umami, rolled in herbs and sauce. Also, try ordering “small” plates—which are actually generous “large” shares—perfect for sampling a variety. Taste & Flavour Profile: Every dish combined Middle Eastern and Asian flavours in clever, creative ways—think coriander, sumac, nam jim, herbs, tahini, and pomegranate—all packed into share plates. The food feels generous and intensely flavorful without being pretentious. Staff are highly knowledgeable and friendly. They offer advice and pace the service wellhether you’re sitting at the bar watching the chefs or at a communal table. The wine list is thoughtfully curated, heavily featuring South Australian producers and some international options. However, it was the perfect night to order ‘GinkaTonic’ as I always called it 😎 On a High Note, the sweet finale was the peanut butter parfait—a decadent explosion of mousse, caramelized banana, chocolate and salted caramel. It was indulgent and impossible not to finish. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

We came to Adelaide for a long weekend to experience the food and wine on offer and Peel St was our first port of call on a Friday lunchtime. I had made a booking to ensure we didn't miss out. We requested a feed-me style meal as we couldn't decide what we fancied, and were offered 5 courses of deliciousness (and a 6th - dessert - which we had to take home with us) for $75 each. The portion sizes were big! (maybe a little too large - we were very hungry but still couldn't finish everything!) and although the flavours / style of the dishes were a little "samey" - think corinader, thai-style marinades and seasonings, each dish was very well executed, fresh and balanced. There was enough protein on the plates for us both to feel like it was bang for your buck, and plenty of veggies for balance. The second course (rainbow trout sashimi) was outstanding. The third course, the banana flower chicken dish(?) was nice but I felt the chicken was a little underwhelming in taste compared to the other dishes and the portion was far too large (not often I complain about that but I don't like food waste!). The peanut butter parfait we took home with us was to-die-for! The service was incredible, we were very well looked after from start to finish and didn't need to wait long for drinks or dishes to arrive. We left a tip for this reason. The restaurant was jam-packed full by the time we left at 2pm. Although quite expensive for a "lunch", it was well worth it and I'm sure that everything on the regular menu would have been worth a try too. Would definitely visit again.

My partner and I booked here on a Monday. Knowing that it was a busy place, we wanted to go when it would be quieter. Or so we thought. The restaurant is cramped and extremely loud. I couldn't even hear myself basically yelling across the table. The food started off good, after what seemed like a long wait, with the falafel dish (image below). The falafel were decent in texture, a little dry, but they tasted very nice, especially with the hummus and pomegranate molasses dressing, though the hummus was a bit acidic. Next up was the lamb, hummus again served with it. My partner and I love cooking and have a bit of a focus on middle eastern/Mediterranean, so of course we eat a lot of hummus, but this hummus was just quite acidic. We both had raw, burnt mouths from how sharp it was, and we left feeling like we had tonsillitis. Not thinking the serving sizes would be very large, we ordered two mains for sharing. Unfortunately we chose the Asian beef with lime curry. It sounded like it was going to be the best thing there but....let's just say it wasn't. The beef was extremely tough. Also the lime curry part was so spicy that I was sweating like I was in Cairns. Just because it's a curry doesn't mean it needs to be so spicy that the only sensation you have is burning, to the point there is no flavour. Overall disappointed, having heard that this restaurant was one of the best Adelaide has to offer.

Well well well… Where to begin. Peel St Restaurant if could give you a lower rating I would. A group of 3 of us who in the same day had driven 8+ hours to Adelaide had been recommended this restaurant and were absolutely keen to give this a go. Unfortunately the night did not get off to a good start as we walked in for our 8:30 booking and had basically been placed on the end of a larger table which was also booked by a bigger group that night. This was not ideal however we were willing to deal with it. We then sat and waited approximately 20 minutes before anyone comes to take our food or drinks order and by this time of the night we were absolutely starving. When placing our order the server (who seemed quite nice however inexperienced) tried to recommend that we not order as much food as we had.. we assured him we were extremely hungry and would polish off the shared food with ease. We then waiting approximately 15 minutes for the first of our small meals to arrive which was the focaccia, by this point we had finished our first round of drinks yet the server did not offer us another round until another 15 minutes later. The focaccia come out and half of the pieces were blackened and quite honestly inedible. The pieces that had been done well were nice. After this the issues continued… A further half an hour had passed and we had not seen or heard from any server regarding our food or any more drinks. It took until an hour after ordering for more of our food to arrive which was the sashimi and the chook from the larger meals. The sashimi was underwhelming for the $35 it is priced at. The chook was nice however not to the expectation of size that the server had tried to warn us about. We also were not offered any more drinks. A further 15 minutes passed and we had once again been neglected. The group who had been sharing the table had more people arrive and we had to subsequently move to a different table already an hour into our booking. Another 15 minutes passed and the food had been finished with no sign of the remainder being delivered. I used this time to go to the toilet which was hard to find as there was no signage or anything to indicate the presence of a toilet. Upon finding them I had discovered that they are located at the end of what seems to be a staff hallway with chemicals and toilet paper all over. Unacceptable for a venue who supposedly holds themselves to a high standard. I then returned to the table to find that the food had still not been delivered and which point we decided to ask the server who stated it would only be 5 minutes away. We then waited another 20 minutes and still nothing so as a group decided that we would leave as this had been a catastrophic waste of our Friday night. We offered to pay for what we had received but said we would not be paying for the food that had not been received yet (This is nearly 2 hours after ordering). The server seemed unsure of how to proceed and spoke to who i can only assume is the manager who then did not speak to us but had the server charge us $180 for 6 beers and some exceptionally disappointing food. We then walked out and proceeded across the road to kfc.

From this experience and the 3 of us having a combined 15 years of hospitality experience all I can say is the lack of management and leadership is concerning. I have never at any stage thought about leaving a review for a venue however unfortunately I needed to at this point. I can understand having slow service on a busy night but from the waitress who refused to acknowledge us to the manager who would not talk to us at the end of the night this seems to be an issue that is embedded in the dna of this venue. Would not recommend to my...
