We had a birthday function here and overall it was unfortunately a disappointing experience for us and we left the venue very unhappy.
The venue itself is great, the addition of pool tables and gaming machine made it very entertaining and enjoyable for the guests.
However the management here is very very disappointing. Upon booking the event, we had one contact with the function manager to book the day however we later did not hear from him till 3 days prior to the event. We wanted to confirm everything a week prior and discuss/book in our food order as we were having an event with a young audience we wanted to make sure there was going to be a sufficient amount of food catered for the guests. However, as we called him he said he was busy and couldn’t take our call at the moment. Which was understandable and he said he would call us back the day. But we did not receive a call so we call the next day and the same situation occurred (this happened 3 times), told us he would call us back. We never received a call back, it was not until we finally managed to get in touch with him 1 day prior to the event. We did also send an email during this time.
The service was good, the employees were very nice and helpful. However, the food was absolutely terrible. Which is why we originally wanted to get in contact with the function manager. Not every one of our guests received food as we did a variety cocktail food, which ultimately left our guests upset and very hungry. The food was decided by the function manager as this is what he recommended for us to do and assured us it would be enough for the event. Which was very disappointing as a huge portion of the bill was put towards the catering for the guest and as the host it made me feel very bad that guests went home unhappy and hungry.
I spoke to one of the employees and he was very understanding and understood where I came from. He even mentioned sometimes the chef can be stingy and not provide a good amount of food due to wastage.
He told me to contact the function manager which I did the next day and it has now been a month and I have had no contact from him. The venue manager responded to me a couple of days after the email however since then I have had no response and even sent a follow up email.
Overall, was a disappointing experience . As a customer I did not feel we received what we really paid for, which the bill came out to be very expensive. Even with offering to talk to us about the event, I still have not heard anything. Which is the reason for this review so...
Read moreThe best schnitzel I have had in a long while.
From the outside, the place doesn't look like much. Looks like any other pub situated inside a building from the 18 or 1900's. Turned out to be quite the opposite upon entry. A fairly updated and modern dining room felt a little on the cold side but with a few fireplaces around the establishment, it felt a little warmer. with concrete floors and brick walls, the Sacarens Head Hotel has done a good job to absorb bouncing sound with rugs and acoustic foam under all their chairs.
Service was ample. Nothing special, but not poor either. Table water was provided without requesting which was nice. Standard hotel meal service, needing to go up to the bar to order food and drinks. Drinks of which customers carry back to their own table.
Cleanliness from the bar to the dining room to the table and crockery was spotless. No stains or marks could be seen.
Food was amazing. Ordered a chicken schnitzel with mushroom sauce. Meal came out relatively quickly (we were one of the only patrons on a Monday night) and looked scrumptious. Schnitzel was nice and thick, retaining the juiciness of the meat. Perfectly bread crumbed and fried, even the thinner parts of the schnitzel did not see any dryness. Chips were nicely seasoned with light (chicken?) salt. Crunchy on the outside, moist and fluffy on the inside. Salad was also pleasant to consume. A small side salad dressed with olive oil and a bit of, I believe, white balsamic. Overall, a perfect meal with a good serving size. Would...
Read moreI am writing this as no-one has bothered to respond to my email which I sent on 9/6/15. This is what I wrote: I just wanted to express how disappointed I was with your meals. I dined there on Wednesday night (3rd June) with 3 other people. I ordered the Pork Belly at $28 plus and side of mash ($7) and I bought some bread for $8 as we had an extra piece. I also bought a bottle of wine so in total I spent about $70. I work hard for my money and this was a treat as it was my birthday as well. I had never ordered pork belly before but it always looks so nice. I thought being such a nice hotel that it would be really well done here. It came out and the pork was luke warm and I could literally screw the crackling up as it was so soft. I was so disappointed that I may not order this dish again. I don’t mind so much if you are paying for a cheap night out but I think for your prices it should have been much better. The waiter hesitantly took the meal back and reheated it and certainly seared the crackling on a very hot pan as it was black in parts. Such a disappointing meal. We would have gone back but nobody was overly impressed with their meals. We go to the Arts Theatre quite a bit and being so close would have loved to have found a hotel who served really good meals. I very rarely write emails but as I spent so much I thought it...
