Unfortunately I would not recommend goìng to the Crown and Sceptre at the moment. Things would have to change considerably. We had a booking for 7.30pm of which most of the guests had arrived. Due to difficulty finding a car park 3 of the guests arrived at 7.55pm to be informed that the kitchen was closed and would not supply that 3 with anything including desert. I was told the kitchen was closed and required 20 minutes notice. (Either the Kitchen closes at 8.pm or it closes at 7.40pm!). We were instructed at 8.50pm that we had 10 minutes as the Hotel was closing and while standing outside saying goodnight the lights were turned off. The two staff were extremely officious and most unfriendly. As for the meals. The other guests shared their meals with everyone. Sampling the fish cakes they were nice, along with the lamb dish but the vegetarian burger was dry and flavorless. For a Hotel that I have visited several times in the past and has been highly respected this was a complete disappointment. We as a Club, had considered using the Crown and Sceptre for a larger group function as we have been doing recently in an aim to support hotels as we come out of restrictions from Covid. As a result of this experience, we would be embarrassed to hold a dinner meeting at the Crown and...
Read moreI'm interested in how to find the "friendly" staff everyone talks about. We got sullen service and unsmiling attitude. Food however was 5 star. If the kitchen are wondering why you arent busier, your front of house could use some "hospitality" training. We walked up to the bar, one bartender walked away from us mid sentence, the second ignored us in favour of serving 3 groups of people who entered (the empty) bar after us. When we finally did get to order - We were met with disdain because we didnt have a table number and apparently "you cant put an order in the system without a table number" - One could have been suggested to us but instead we just received a sigh, eyeroll and a death stare until in a panic we yelled out a random table number only to be told "I thought you said you wanted to sit outside...". Second bartender also found us very frustrating when we asked for the pie of the day deal. Apparently you HAVE to download the app to get the deal. As visitors to Adelaide, only there for one day, that seemed pointless. When we advised we didnt want to download the app, the bartender informed us no app no deal and walked away. 5 mins later when he decided we had suffered enough, he returned and lets order the pie of the day...
Read moreMy friends and I were looking forward to a nice meal at the Crown & Sceptre on Friday night (24/01/20). Unfortunately the dining experience was extremely disappointing. Not only was my friend’s fish completely off to the point we are worried she will get food poisoning, but the waiters and management were not at all apologetic, and refused to give her a refund. Whatever happened to customer service and the customer is always right?!!
To make matters worse, when my friend left an honest review about her dining experience, as her feedback on the night fell on deaf ears, the response from the owner was pathetic and tried to blame HER! They flat out lied saying that she was offered another meal - that is NOT true. My friend was offered another piece of the same foul smelling fish, and she refused that offer because she didn’t want to risk food poisoning. The owner claims she was offered another meal but that is false. This establishment has NO concept of customer service, they are arrogant and stubborn, and we will never go there again - and tell everyone we know not to. Extremely disappointing and appalling treatment...
