I have dined at The Griffin's multiple times for team lunches, and I have always walked away feeling underwhelmed with their food. Recently, I have found their prices to be on the higher side compared to other pubs and taste just mediocre. A large group of us had lunch there recently. A colleague ordered Crispy Skinned Barramundi with shellfish in a saffron nduja broth, cannellini bean and fennel. While the fish was cooked well, it could have used some bread or carbs to mop up the sauce/broth, making it more filling, especially considering the cost. I ordered the Taco Bowl, which tasted alright. Another colleague ordered the Chargrilled SA King Prawns with papaya, tamarind, chilli, grilled pineapple, and crispy fish. As soon as the dish arrived, it had a strong, unpleasant smell. The prawns were really off-putting. We have eaten a lot of prawns elsewhere and knew something was not right. She even tried to eat it but couldn't without feeling nauseous. She raised the issue with the staff, who informed her that they receive fresh produce daily and it shouldn't smell. They did offer her another dish, which was...
Read moreCame here on a Friday night and it was absolutely packed with city workers coming in for a drink after work. Trying to get a drink was a bit of a mission as people were just standing in front of the bar chatting away clogging up the bar. We sat down for dinner in the restaurant which was also packed out with quite a line up of people ordering food, problem was no one really knew where the line was and with a line of about 15 people and only 1 person taking orders and working the bar for the restaurant it was chaos. I had the lamb rump at $32 it was abit ho-hum. It was full of fat and not really what you would call tender, it was everything you wouldn't expect for $32. My partner had the barramundi salad which was quite tasty but at $26 very expensive for half a bowl of lettuce but i suppose thats what you need to expect when you order a salad from anywhere, they 2/3rds fill the bowl with lettuce, that's how they...
Read moreThe Griffins Hotel advertise themselves as having "the best pub burger in Adelaide", however, this could not be further from the truth. (I do recall this recognition actually being awarded AT the Griffins, so I don't know how unbiased or fair that competition was in reality)
Anyway, I'm not sure whether their regular chef was sick the night we visited (or maybe they've recently resigned altogether) but it was so bad! The bun was obviously stale to begin with but it was then over-toasted to the point of actually being burnt on some parts.
The beef patty definitely was NOT wagyu either - more like a very poorly made, solid puck of dry, bland Coles mince beef. The chips were quite nice and there were enough of them too, so this partly salvaged the meal.
In the end though, the food was way below average and very overpriced for...
