Overpriced, did not taste nice and a slightly patronising owner. I chose the waffle with fruit option (apple and cinnamon filled) $9 as is, which is quite pricey, so I was expecting quality (especially since waffles are the speciality). I added a scoop of vanilla ice-cream for $5.50 and asked for a drizzle of chocolate sauce. They tried to charge me $4 for this drizzle and when I questioned the price for just a drizzle the owner did lower it to $1 which I find reasonable and appreciated... but he made the comment 'nothing can be handed out for free you know'. Oh I know it can't... but $4?! This comment was quite patronising to me and he was acting quite patronising to the young boy he was training the whole time we were there. The waffle in the photo was to be $18.50 if I didn't question the chocolate price. That is nuts! I noticed other toppings, like adding maple syrup, was also $4, that's ridiculous pricing. Unfortunately the waffle was microwaved, boiling hot and mushy. The flavour was honestly not nice. The filling tasted old and flavourless. Like out of date tinned apple pie filling. I will give it to them, the ice-cream was nice. Probably because they didn't make it in house I assume. If I didn't add the ice cream to mask the awful waffle flavour, I wouldn't have been able to eat it. My partner also had a coffee and a fresh made waffle, both he mentioned were very average, especially for the price and the fact waffles are supposed to be the specialty. After wanting to try this place for a while, we won't be returning unfortunately. I'd recommend others to have a good read of the menu pricing...
Read moreA large amount of topping choices and a decent tea selection save this place from a 1-star review.
Menu items were expensive for what you get, the waffles were doughy, and the caramel sauce was full of large crystallised white sugar pieces. The food came out of numbered order, so I got mine before another table and then had to wait until they were served before my friends were served. The total wait was around 35-40 minutes. Waffle combos are served in plastic containers with plastic cutlery, which seems like an enormous waste if eating in. They don't seem super portable if taking away either, as lids aren't provided.
Waffle King seems to have a bit of an identity crisis. If it is a takeaway restaurant, the indoor and outdoor tables seem to suggest otherwise, and all orders rung up at the till are labeled takeaway even if eating in, no questions asked. By far though, the worst factor in choosing to eat from here is the owner's attitude in responding to reviews! Even if the food was amazing (and it wasn't) I wouldn't choose to help this...
Read moreOK waffles but quite dry .... until I saw the maple syrup on top of the counter (not on their 3 only squeezed for space tables).
The three of us had to sit down quickly as there was so little space in front of the counter and more clients were coming in to the premises.
The “coffee” was VERY ordinary - I had to take it back and get it remade as it was very weak and undrinkable .... it turned out the 2nd one (made by the boss who even told off his young employee for not following his earlier directions!) was little better than the first .... the milk was “burnt” on both occasions and nearly as weak!
Then I had a look at their “coffee machine” it was quite a big unit but my adult son pointed out it was a big Nespresso commercial POD machine!!!!
They may have had to use TWO pods as the coffee in my “paper mug sized cup” was still VERY weak!
TIP: Maybe buy the waffles “to go” ...... and grab a real...
