Gelatiamo Dolce Patisserie & Gelato Airlie Beach — Restaurant in Airlie Beach

I love ice cream, but I usually only have it when I’m traveling. So whenever I see gelato, I have to try it! After tasting so many amazing gelato places across Europe (Italy especially), I can confidently say this place is really good. The texture, as many have mentioned, is smoother than the authentic gelatos I’ve had in Italy and a bit richer, more like ice cream.

When I visited, they didn’t have my absolute favorite, pistachio, which was a bit disappointing. I tried my next favorite, chocolate, and it did not disappoint. It was rich, smooth, very chocolatey, and sweet without being overly sweet, almost like a better Haagen-Dazs. I loved it.

I also tried their pistachio cannoli. It wasn’t quite what I expected, the filling was more creamy custard than the grainy ricotta of traditional cannoli, and it didn’t taste much like pistachio. Still, it was a delicious vanilla custard.

Serving sizes were anemic. You’d think for $8.90 for two “scoops” the gelato might reach over the top of the cup but you’d be disappointed. 2 scoops were the equivalent of 1 at Messina or similar stores. The gelato seemed to be too cold and hard for the servers to comfortably create uniform scoops.

The vanilla bean tasted more like what other gelato stores might call “jersey milk”, ie. just a plain milk ice cream. There was no evidence that a vanilla bean had been anywhere near the ice cream. The chocolate was pleasant and smooth.

Would have preferred a pure strawberry, rather than “strawberry melon” which didn’t...

Planned to get some tasty cakes to finish off a lovely night out. Made sure we were early before closing. They shut the shop 25 minutes early, then completely ignored me and a group of others as we knocked on the door. Awkwardly avoided eye contact as The stay new they were doing the wrong thing.
