After abortive attempts at getting a meal in town, we stumbled quite by accident upon this tastebud delight.
Sitting undercover, but in the open we feasted on the seafood taste platter entree and barramundi main. Exquisite presentation and lovely flavours with enough space left for the Sugar Menu which offered a chocolate souffle and a sticky date pudding.
We're told that being here in daylight hours, like say breakfast and sunset dinner is divine and we intend to come back to convince ourselves that we weren't just imagining things - that and there is plenty more to explore on the menu.
Prices are very reasonable, blanket supplied if the chill of the evening is distracting you from your meal.
Service was attentive and welcoming.
Nice to see and experience.
Update: We've lunched and dined here again. Individual meals have been good, excellent on occasion.
For dinner we came back for the Degustation. As meals go it was a pretty well executed five course offer. As a Degustation, for me, it was a series of missed opportunities.
Starting off with bread and hummus seemed uninspired. Reappearance of the hummus with the fish seems like taking a shortcut and Nutella as the basis for dessert was outright disappointing.
Pumpkin soup was delightful as was a crumbed egg yolk. Used an ingredient in the beef it was a lovely surprise. The Wagyu beef itself seemed to be cooked in a hurry. It was not anywhere in the range of what you'd refer to as tender. The same could not be said for the barramundi, which though served with the previously mentioned hummus, was superb.
Overall the menu in this restaurant is a well curated taste experience. We hoped for fireworks for the Degustation, sadly not this...
Read moreI went to Tides Restaurant & Bar last week and I've really loved this place. What a great discovery! Amazing and friendly staff, I was made to feel very welcome and all the staff did an excellent job looking after me. They were extremely attentive and were very keen to spend time discussing the dishes or the wines.
Food is excellent! I'm fromy Italy and I can definitely say that I ate an excellent pasta. I ordered from the Dinner Menu and had Soft herb gnocchi and Wagyu pappardelle. All was delicious and well balanced with perfect seasoning and lots of pops of colour, texture and flavour.
The atmosphere is FANTASTIC! This is kind of place I look for when on holiday and want somewhere traditional and for the locals. The restaurant is calm, beautiful and very elegant.
I recommend this place! Do, I will...

As a Club Wyndham owner it is extremely disappointing to read so many bad reviews about staff service at Tides Restaurant.
My wife and I had dinner the night we arrived. Booked a table as we were told at reception when we checked-in. Arrived for dinner and were just given any table which wasn't even cleaned or had missing cutlery.
Ordered an entree of prawns and didn't receive them. Main meals were good, however not really worth the price compared to other restaurants quality in Airlie Beach.
Not really one to ever complain however this is pretty ridiculous. It seems like definitely in need of a Supervisor at Tides Restaurant as it seems like the place is just left up to...
