We had been looking forward to our stay at Club Wyndham Airlie Beach for months, dreaming of spending time sitting on the balcony, enjoying the ocean views. When we got to our room, we were absolutely shattered to discover that we had a view of a building roof and a tree. We asked reception if they could give us another room that has a better view, but they said they were full and couldn’t move us. They said that possibly later in the week they could move us. So we kept going back to reception to ask for a room with a view. Eventually they admitted they wouldn’t move us even if a room was available, as they would then have to pay to have our current room cleaned, as well as the next room we stayed in, when we vacated. We said that the view from our room is nothing like the promotional photos. The reply was that some rooms have a water view and some don’t. Had I known that, I would have booked at another property where a water view was assured. Most properties I have booked in the past list rooms with a view separately, usually at a higher price, but at least I have the option of choosing a view if I want to pay extra. Nothing was mentioned for this property that ocean views are not guaranteed, which is quite deceptive. Club Wyndham is on a hill, so I assumed that every room has a water view, since there was nothing to indicate to the contrary. One thing we asked reception is that if we had requested a room with a view when we booked, if one would have been allocated to us. We were told rooms are not preallocated. They are only allocated on check in. So it just depends on what is left when you arrive. The included breakfasts were good, the room was spacious, and the bed was comfortable, but our whole experience staying here was severely marred by our lack of an ocean view, which we were lead to believe we were getting. If you want guaranteed ocean views, best to book elsewhere.

There are many pros and cons to this accommodation. The obvious ones have been mentioned many times in reviews but these were our experiences: CONS: We booked a deluxe room and the only difference I could see between this and the standard was ocean/bay views. I requested a high level and good water view unfortunately I got neither. The tide was often out which meant our view became mud instead of water. (See photos before and after). Drains in bathroom had a mild sewerage smell extending into the room. We had many maintenance issues particularly electrical. The main problem was the footpath light shone right into our bedroom and it took several daily attempts to get reception to address this. (See photo) The noise from the above room was surprisingly loud. We did ask to change rooms but they didn’t assist with this. PROS Lovely restaurant view although food is not great. Breakfast staff older lady lovely. Staff are mostly friendly. Beautiful boardwalk steps from the street. Easier to get back to accommodation this way.

Had a wonderful stay in January in the Presidential Villas. We were nervous before staying due to some of the reviews referencing restaurant quality and other things but we found nothing wrong with the place. The restaurant food was amazing we ate dinner most nights at the hotel and even after dining out we found the food no better elsewhere in town. The staff were lovely, especially Owen and Italian lady whose name we didn’t capture. Breakfasts were great and were not small portions at all. Staff were really accommodating to any amendments. Would definitely stay again!

We booked this accommodation for a special occasion and were left extremely disappointed. From the moment we arrived, the entire experience was underwhelming and not at all reflective of the promotional photos or description.

The room was dark and poorly lit, especially over the bathroom vanity — a real issue if you rely on proper lighting, especially for makeup. The overall decor was very basic, tired, and dated. The fittings were worn, and the couch was particularly grubby, stained, and uncomfortable. Even the curtains were broken and didn’t fit properly.

Cleanliness was well below standard. We found a dirty ring in the toilet bowl, the underside of the plates and cutlery were crusted and unclean, and a filthy phone was sitting in plain view. Shockingly, there were four cockroaches in the kitchen area on the first day, and we had to go out and buy insect spray. The oven turntable was faulty, dirty, and difficult to operate — no instructions were provided for either the oven or microwave, both of which were dated and confusing to use. The stove’s extraction fan didn’t work, so cooking left the entire space smelling unpleasant. The kitchen appliances (Bosch) were all in poor condition or outright faulty.

The sink cabinet door literally fell off, and the lack of drawer space in the bathroom made it hard to store toiletries. The power points were oddly and inconveniently placed under the sink — difficult to access, particularly for anyone with limited mobility. The safe was too complicated to operate, and no pen or paper was provided for basic note-taking.

The shower was cramped and uncomfortable, with no handheld option — just a small, narrow enclosure and an overhead spout. There was no door for the toilet, offering zero privacy — an unacceptable oversight for any accommodation.

The resort is not suited to older guests or anyone with mobility issues. Access around the property is steep, and a car is absolutely essential. The lifts are dark, slow, and feel claustrophobic. There was no offer of late checkout, and we found the reception was staffed entirely by young, inexperienced workers who lacked any authority or ability to assist. We requested a room change immediately upon arrival, due to the many issues, but were told there were no options available — no follow-up, no apology.

Only one redeeming factor: the bed and pillows were comfortable. But that’s far from enough to recommend this place.

This was not a resort experience. It was frustrating, uncomfortable, and completely mismatched with the advertised experience. Absolutely not...

Fairly disappointed.

We requested early check-in due to our morning flight. They took my mobile no, said housekeeping was aware that we were onsite, said they'd aim to check us in early and would call us when the room was ready. There was no phone call so we went back to reception at 2pm and had to wait another 15 minutes for our room to be ready. We checked into our room and there was 'trimmed' hair all over the spa bath perimeter, there were brown stains on a hand towel closest to the toilet, crumbs on the floor and couch. A lovely woman, Sally, organised free cocktails for us while they sorted the room out. We got back to the room and there were still crumbs on the floor and they replaced the hand towel with one that had faint black streaks on it. After a third attempt at cleaning the room it appeared to be in reasonable cleanliness condition.

The gym is pretty basic, the treadmill was out of order and the indoor bike has many broken buttons; I had to turn it off at the wall to start a new workout.

We organised late check-out by calling the front desk one day prior, only to get a call on our room phone from a bloke with a snarky tone asking us when we were going to check out. This was 30 minutes before the agreed late check-out time. We were asked who approved the late check-out... as if we were supposed to write down the name of the person we spoke to on the phone?? If the person at reception today wasn't aware of our late check out, that is an internal process issue and not the client's responsibility to take down the name who approved our late check out and follow up with them.

It would be handy to have a car if you stay here. It's extremely hilly so the walk to/from town in the heat is challenging. Even just walking around the resort is quite the calf workout. There's only 3 shuttles a day into town so you'll otherwise need to rely on taxis which can be very unreliable - we waited in the queue one morning for a taxi and didn’t end up getting one, luckily there was a shuttle departing 40 mins later that we could take. You'll need to head into town for lunch because the restaurant, Tides, is only open for breakfast and dinner.

Sally was great, the views are amazing, the pool is pretty nice, the staff were friendly but the admin issues definitely put a dampener...
