Spicy Thai — Restaurant in Airlie Beach

We went here today. Firstly, the service was just appalling. The lady at the front was clearly trying to help but didn’t know much about gluten free and seemed to be run off her feet despite the restaurant only having 2 tables. We waited for about 30 mins to place our order, one of the waitresses actively ignored us after she saw us raise our hand for some service, and they continually prioritised take aways.

Secondly, despite telling them multiple times that my wife is a celiac and needs food to be gluten free (and spelling out that soy sauce also contains it), they gave us dishes that looked suspiciously ‘normal’. After confirming again with them that it was gluten free, we ended up eating it. After dinner, my wife had a gluten attack. It appalls me that there are still restaurants where they have no clue what gluten means or at least don’t fully comprehend the impact it can have on a celiac if they consume it.

We went during a public holiday, but there weren't many people there, and most people were just waiting for takeaway that they'd ordered. That should have been a warning sign enough. We went there due to the torrential rain. The front counter staff was nice. We ordered a simple meal that we had hoped would be quick and easy to be ready. Two plates of chicken rice and a dish or grilled pork. Checking my clock, I observed that we waited there for 45 minutes since we placed our order. We enquired about our order. We were told it wouldn't be long. After waiting a while longer, we asked whether our dishes had been started yet. Only the pork had been started. We asked to take that away. We paid $21.90 for what is pictured. The portion size for a main at that price was quite small. It smelled great, and was tasty, but it was chewy, and wasn't as fresh...

Definitely don’t recommend going here, we only decided to try it because our Airbnb host said that it’s her go to place, ordered Thai fried rice with beef, the rice was soggy and mushy like over cooked steamed rice and the veggies were hard and tasted very bland. The whole think just tasted very bland and had no flavour at all which I wasn’t expecting especially because it was meant to be Thai style rice full of spice and flavour :( the beef it was as dry and hard as jerky and could barely eat it. Ended up having one bite and throwing the whole thing out. My bf has pad see ew, with pork. Again meat was very dry and the potion was very small for the price, he said the sauce was very oily too and did t have slot of flavour.
