Greasy Floor, 500% Mark Up and low-quality ingredients and staff that scream at each other to communicate.
Dinned in for 2 on 20/11/24
Went here for the 1st time after hearing the excellent chef from Kingsfood had moved here.. but if he had - he wasnt working this day.
Be very careful walking on the tiles on the way to your table With a bit of rain about, the layer of grease on them made it akin to my first time on an ice-skating rink. PLEASE have your floors professionally cleaned - they are dangerous!
We ordered Salt and Pepper Quail ($18.90 for 2) and White Bait ($19.90) for Entree. We made it as clear as humanly possible that we would like these as "Entree", before the mains came out..
The white bait were well seasoned, but thickly battered, on the overly well done side and oily. They were not pleasant to eat - and Nothing like the light, crisp salty pile of goodness from Kingfood in its hay day before their old chef left.
The quail also was well seasoned, but had a weird smell / taste which we assume was freezer burn, as the meat was dry and chewy.
Before we could make a dent in the entrees, and despite our clear instructions, the main dish arrived - which feels rushed and then the whole lot gets cold. This is REALLY annoying, and why I usually order Entree then don't order main until I am ready when eating at Sunnybank.
The Main was Fish with Ginger and Shallots ($21.90) with a small bucket of steamed rice ($10.50 - Yes, you read that correctly) and a 375ml can of coke no sugar each at $5.00each!!! OUCH! This is over 500% markup.. If I knew this - $10 for less than 800mls of coke - I wouldnt have had it on principle. That, with the price of your stale steamed rice is utterly extortionary and the main reason your very average food scores a 1 star overall.
The fish in the ginger and shallots was chewy / tough - almost certainly low quality imported Bassa. The sauce was gluggy - way too much thickener.
The rice was stale and luke warm.
The solo male staff member awkwardly kept circling the restaurant doing a whole lot of nothing and peering around corners at us, and the noise of staff behind the open-air bar area (Screaming at each other) was really the nail in the coffin for us.
Overall, an unenjoyable and disappointing dining experience with very average food, extortionary prices on the steamed rice and drinks, and an obnoxiously loud yelling match amongst the staff while we were trying to have a lunch catch up.
Again, Watch your footing on the way out until they...
Read moreLittle Hong Kong is one of the few original stores left of Market Square as everything around them has changed a lot especially with the current new additions~ ✨
i used to come here SO much when i was younger, definitely a childhood memorable restaurant for me🥺decided to pay a visit a few days ago and wow😫🤤
🍖Single BBQ Meal (roast pork and dry noodles $12.9): do you SEE the portion size for such a good price?? jeez🤭🤩incredibleeeee i was craving roast pork and immediately remembered this place! and wow delicious 🤤the noodles are iconic and yummy too! i will say some pieces of pork are cut way too big, it’s so much harder to chew them when they are so big, so i definitely prefer smaller cuts, i’ll make sure to tell them next time~
🍤Seafood Hor Fan in Egg Sauce $16.90: this was also SUCH a big portion! the dish was literally over flowing as you can see!! a lot of noodles and seafood, a generous balance! also the sauce was delicious and not super thick like some places are which is such a relief~🥰delicious delicious!
i will have to point out, the dry noodles with the roast pork seems to have changed, i’m assuming over the manyyy years either management has changed or chefs have changed still delicious but definitely not the same as before✨
overall, i really do recommend Little Hong Kong, they have a big menu so you will definitely find something you like!🥰definitely give it a try if you don’t know what to eat in Sunnybank amongst the plethora...
Read moredecent food but worst service i’ve ever received. We had a booking for 5pm and unfortunately due to the carpark situation, half of our guests arrived late at 5:40 2 minutes before they arrived, the lady with short hair came up to us asking where everyone was (not in a respectful way) and then raised her voice saying our booking was for 5, and we’ve been here an hour! Also everytime the male staff dropped off our food, they did not say what it was, just put it on the table and walked away. We asked for 6 serves of rice, were given a big pot of rice and then 20 mins later 2 little bowls of rice. we asked the man who gave them to us what these were and the same lady came and raised her voice saying the pot was for four people and the other rice was the extra two serves. But this was also said so disrespectfully. At the end of the meal, when collecting the plates that we stacked for them, the male waiter only did a “come here” motion with his fingers for us to pass him the plates! No one asked how the food was, and for the price you pay you expect a good experience! The floor under the tables is absolutely disgusting as well. it was oily and slippery and converted in food scraps. that doesn’t just happen in one day, these floors never get cleaned.
I’ve worked in a restaurant busier than this one and would never dream of giving a customer this kind of service. Save your money....
