If you’re in Annerley and craving authentic Indian flavours, Sankalp Indian Restaurant on Ipswich Road is a spot worth bookmarking. I’ve been here a few times now, and each visit reminds me why it’s a favourite among locals. The first thing you notice is the vibe—bright, modern, and welcoming without feeling over the top. It’s the kind of place you can enjoy with family, friends, or even solo when you just want a comforting dosa and a hot cup of filter coffee. And speaking of dosas… they’re fantastic. Crisp on the outside, soft inside, and paired with fresh chutneys and a rich, aromatic sambar. My personal go-to is the Mysore dosa, though the cheese-garlic version is dangerously addictive. Idlis and vadas also hit the spot—light, fluffy, and perfect for dipping. Vegetarians will love it here—there’s plenty beyond the usual curries. The vegetarian biryani is fragrant and filling, and the sizzling BBQ veg platter brings a fun, smoky twist. Meat lovers aren’t left out either—think butter chicken that’s creamy and comforting, and chicken biryani that delivers on both flavour and spice. Desserts? Don’t leave without trying the gulab jamun or rasmalai—they’re soft, sweet, and feel like a warm hug at the end of your meal. Service is generally good, though there have been the occasional off-days—like a bit of a spill or slower clearing of tables—but nothing that’s been a dealbreaker. Parking can be tricky along Ipswich Road, so I recommend using the rear car park. All in all, Sankalp Annerley is one of those reliable neighbourhood gems—flavoursome, affordable, and consistently satisfying. If you’re after Indian food that actually feels like it’s made with care, this place will keep you coming back.

Easily the best Indian food we've ever had. It is so hard to find Indian food where the flavours are properly balanced the way they should be - bold and delicate dishes were all perfectly balanced within themselves. Brilliant. Authentic. Generous. The owner Sunil made us welcome and his staff did a great job. We'd been waiting for quite a few months to come here so we went to town. The food came quickly. We had the idli to start with. They were soft and fluffy. The marsala was flavoursome, and the curry sauce accompaniment was light and well balanced. The serve was large. We then had tandoori chicken, which was both tasty and juicy. Nice smokiness too. We moved onto crispy paper dosa marsala, which came with some light curry sauces and chutneys. It was fresh, crispy and tasted beautiful. I loved the texture too. We loved it so much we bought another normal dosa as well. We also had the goat Rogan Josh, which was superb. A huge serve too. Subtle to begin with, stronger flavours then pushing through along with some heat, but not too much. It was perfect. We also had the pineapple raita and garlic naan. The raita was a very pleasant surprise, it balanced off against the curries so well. Even used it in the dosas! There was no way we could finish it all. We will be back there very soon - it has a huge menu. The photo attached is just the dosa menu. There were at least a hundred items on the menu. Staff will make it exactly as you want it. With drinks, the bill was just under $100. In summary, Indian food as it should be. Flavourful, rich, generous, balanced.
