TL;DR - very interesting atmosphere, a lot of missing ingredients and not really proactive solutions to these missing parts. Worth a visit nonetheless
My experience:
Things I liked: my espresso martini, the aesthetics, the board games.
I went the Thursday night the storms started to pick up so it wasn’t too busy but can understand the staff still being a bit stressed keeping stuff inside and everything.
The night started out really well, we sat on the couch and enjoyed some cocktails and some of the board games provided at the venue.
Though the sign at the front says to “ask staff about cocktail specials” I would suggest just reading from their digital menu, as when I did ask the bartender seemed a bit perplexed and unsure where to begin (which is fair as I don’t expect them to remember all their drinks off the top of their head, just seemed a bit odd for the sign to be there saying we should ask).
Things went downhill when we went to go order food and another round of drinks. First of all… $35 seems a bit steep for a charcuterie board of this quality. I would avoid at all costs. Their popcorn chicken for $13.5 isn’t so bad.
I had paid for our drinks and meal and went to sit back down. Around 5 minutes later the bartender comes up to us saying there is a small amount of a particular ingredient left for one of our drinks. Suggests a random drink, my friend just says they’ll take what they’ve tried before — which so happens to be a drink that’s cheaper than the one paid for. No offer of refund is made then.
5 minutes after that, the staff comes up to us again and says they’re missing the camembert, but can do double the cheddar (?), we reluctantly agree. Get given a board with four blocks of cheddar. It was just a bit subpar and really not worth $35.
What’s more despite being one of maybe a total of 7 guests inside, the music was blasting and it was almost like rock music at times. It didn’t really suit the aesthetic in my opinion and it was too loud which made conversation difficult.
With a bit of a sour taste in my mouth I tried my hand at maybe getting a refund on the difference in the drinks. That last interaction with the staff was actually really quite nice, so all in all I have to say - definitely a place to check out, friendly staff who are doing their best with what they have. Research their menu before you go and think of alternatives in case they don’t have the ingredients for what you want. (and do not even think of ordering the...
Read moreIn 2021, I experienced this hole-in-the-wall lounge for a staff Christmas party. It was hosted by Bikram Yoga North Brisbane. I attended this event rather late because I had been working all day at Portofino Aged Care for Mrs.Katt. She is a retired doctor who resides in an opulent suite. It is replete with an extravagant art collection, European fashion and vintage furniture. I never wake Mrs.Katt up while she is resting. I also don't disturb her when she has visitors, as she is rather renowned in Brisbane.
Unfortunately, I arrived after most of the appetizers had been served. To my astonishment, a gardener kept ordering more beef and taco entrees. I was quite grateful that he insisted to keep the kitchen open past 10pm because I was famished. The only caveat was that the majority of the guests who arrived at 6pm were significantly inebriated. I never drink alcohol, so some of these obnoxiously, unruly comments alarmed me.
One man waltzed in from the footpath to capitalize on this private function and erroneously claimed 'I'm a mining engineer.'
After a 60 minute discussion, I realized he actually isn't a mining engineer, because he has never heard of Barrick Gold. This is an internationally renowned Canadian mining company. He continues to perpetuate some elusive concept of a Job in North Queensland. I scrutinize him intently as he babbles exuberantly
I insist I need to return to my accommodation. He demands to follow me. I retort 'back off, I know you're not an engineer.' He becomes increasingly agitated, until I grab my designer, large Marc Jacobs shoulder bag with gold embellishment. He promptly dashes in the opposite direction.
I've never returned to this non-descript venue again, as I cancelled my yoga membership in 2022. Group On Events don't really...
Read moreFirst time trying this venue on a Saturday afternoon. I think I got lucky because I managed to score a park on the street in front of the strip of restaurants. As the name suggests, it is situated on the corner. Looks like a popular venue based on the number of people that were there. Met up with a gf who had been here before. Options to sit inside or outside. They have luxe leather lounges and armchairs inside and an outside dining area as well. We were eyeing off the high table but couldn't get one, so opted for a low table near the entrance. A high table eventually freed up, so we upgraded ourselves. I could see snippets of the water from where I was sitting. We perused the menu. We weren't hungry, so we decided to grab the antipasto platter to go with the bottle of bubbles we ordered. The platter was beautifully presented with quality ingredients. Spent a few hours here chatting and taking in the scenery. Would return to check out the other food and drink options and see how comfy those luxe leather lounges...
