Being a white restaurant I’d hope that the cleanliness would be a top priority, however, the floor was disgusting and the dirt and debris on the floor was quite prominent for the fact that it was white.
The food was very average, and Luke warm. They had no produce, no lactose free milk, no chorizo, no mushrooms, and got 2 different things wrong with our orders. Not to mention, they had changed my order and didn’t even bother to ask me if it was okay until the plate was handed to me with the change of food. I understand that chorizo was not available and accepted this but it was only made known to me once the waiter handed me my plate and asked if avocado was okay instead, with the food already being changed on my plate.
I could’ve been allergic to the foods that it was changed to and not only could that be of harm to me but it would mean that you’re wasting your own produce having to remake the order. You are providing a service to customers and they should be informed of what they are consuming first not that your chef has just decided to change the meal they are asked to make with no permissions involved.
Adding on, there was halloumi under my croissant and I was not made aware halloumi was going to be in the food at all. The breakfast croissant does not include it on the ordering menu and the waiter did not address the fact that it would be on there. My partner had ordered hash browns with his order and did not get this until it was asked for. They didn’t even provide us cutlery until again, we had to ask for it.
The service was very underwhelming and it seemed to be very laid back, having worked in the hospitality industry for 5 years I know if I was sitting down chatting to a friend and not working for the money I was being paid I’d get in quite some trouble.
I’d like to also add that i understand that illusion is a very new company and I hope this review is taken as constructive criticism because I genuinely love the idea of how the place looks and believe this idea can be taken far and the restaurant has the potential to thrive, however please do not ruin the fascinating ideas with small and...
Read moreMy friends and I visited illusion for the first time, for some brunch. I had ordered a brioche burger, hash brown and a side of sweet potato fries and got the regular fries as they were out of sweet potato fries. I was fine with this as I will eat either. I thought the burger was fine (nothing special), I got to the center of the burger and the avocado just wasn't good to the point I spat it out in to a tissue. Now, I understand that it might just be the avocado itself but when I had tried the fries, I was very disappointed as they look good but as I bit into them, I could taste something was off and I had a few more bites to confirm. I had asked my friends what their thoughts were and they agreed. I had went up to the waiter at the counter and explained what my problem was...he spoke with the chef as I had asked for at least half my money back as I ate about half the burger, hash brown and left the fries nearly untouched (I paid $37.51) I received $10 back. As my friends and I were ready to leave I noticed my friends didn't touch the bowl of fries they orded either and I brought their bowl of fries up to counter and spoke with a lady, which then the chef had seen us and came up and took the bowl from the lady and tasted the fries and said they were fine in an angry manner. I personally think my friends should had gotten their money back for their bowl of fries as they paid $6.60 for a regular bowl that wasn't even full and wasn't eaten.
P.s one of my friends had ordered the same burger and really enjoyed it, while the other friend had the croissant eggs benedict which she also enjoyed.
The place is either a...
Read moreAs a creative, I had to check this out and I have to say I love the 2D look of it all. When we arrived the upstairs was closed so we sat by the window. My friend felt like we were on display which was pretty funny. We ordered the brunch board to the counter but you can order the other items on the QR code from the table. I think we had about three of the staff ask us if everything was ok and it was great they offered the take away at the end when we couldn't finish. They opened up the upstairs area later when it got busier. Try not to order the brunch meal if you chose the small table as it would be a struggle to fit everything in. Would have to say that maybe prices have gone up for food now as the menu felt more expensive. Definitely a treat to go and check out 😊. The closest secure parking is McWhirters but it's $20+ just to park. You're better off checking McLachlan street for street parking which has up to 4 hours metered parking at just under $10. Their menu, (which I have to say as a designer) could have been better if it wasn't in comic sans 🥲 because their atmosphere and their logo have more of a mature vibe from the...
