Left feeling v.dissapointed. The squid was fishy ( almost felt like is stale) and tasteless, bland , overcooked and hard and overpriced. There was no garlic butter and bacon when description says so especially price stood at $26 for some measley below average squid. The one posted on Facebook looks delish but when dining in ,it was a total let down. Picture look totally different. I believe the menu has changed. Head chef owner should be cooking instead of apprentices. We hoping for pizza due to Facebook posts but it wasn’t in the menu. Waitress got our order mix up when we order mushroom pide not pork fennel pide ($24) . But she apologise. The steak tartare ($18) was below average and wish they had a egg yolk on top. I understand covid brings a lot of business to stand still but for what you pay , customer should be receiving what they get. It wasn’t a good view when the staff behind the kitchen was eating with his bare hands and had his mask down . Beer is good. Bill came to $89 (overpriced and didn't meet our expectations in terms of taste and quality) and We wouldn’t be returning .
Hi owner ( replying to your comment )
We don't believe it is seasonal as such as Instagram post had the squid with the red dressing swirl around it and you can see the ingredients in the "current IG post" was more real than in reality. We both felt ingredients were taken out to replace another due to either stock availability or cost or labor time. Not only there was not an ounce of garlic butter taste or no bacon on the squid dish . Plus there was a google review customer complaining about squid being bland too so it can't be wrong with our tastebuds. If it was seasonal at least should mention on the menu or posts before diners come . Even pizzas was taken out and convert to some pide (reduction in size) . Anyway the junior chef (skinny) staff wasn't tasting as such as he was packing away the ingredients and getting ready for next day service. His mask was down most of time we sat down till we received our meals and towards the end . If the ingredients /dishes advertised on social media was posted current , we think it should match what was posted and if we dine then we wouldn't mind paying for it . But we came because of early birthday week and were left v. dissapointed....
Read moreMy wife ate here a year ago and said it was amazing. But when we went it was very different.
The decor is cold and industrial. When you book, ask for a “low table”, which is just a normal table instead of a tall one with a stool 🤦♂️
We had the four tiger prawns so $6.50 per prawn. They were okay, a little messy with some legs remaining. The cut lime had the sticker still on it in the bowl.
We had the duck fat potatoes. They were completely soggy with fat rather than the crispy skin kind. Pretty disappointing.
I had the sirloin my wife had the rib eye. The sirloin was cooked correctly though the outside char was not particularly special, and the meat was a little tough as this cut has no fat, and was swimming in the watery “jus” with slightly undercooked mushroom.
My wife was satisfied with her rib eye though overpriced; I had some and would call it just okay. It’s not bad but I expected something spectacular.
The cocktails came out fast but had subpar flavour and presentation, I wouldn’t recommend them for anyone. The beer was fine. I feel the glasses for both were slightly dirty and not polished, I spotted a lot of oil and fingerprints before we started.
All up about $215. I wouldn’t eat here again and I’m surprised anyone does except for gym bros after a workout wanting protein in large quantity. Even then, at this price, they’d go...
Read moreCelebrated a birthday (not mine) with some friends and it was my first visit to Brown street grill. It has a pub/brewery vibe and atmosphere upon entry, the lighting was on the dark side and I guess that is what is intended. Seat configuration - tables/chairs in the centre of the restaurant and high tables/high chairs on one side of the restaurant. If you make a booking, I recommend requesting for the table seating as it looked more comfortable. We ordered to share and went with the wagyu fat roast potatoes (delicious and crunchy), the spiced roasted carrots, jap pumpkin and chargrilled broccoli. All of these vegetable dishes were very good - you can taste the difference between woodfired and just baked in the oven. We also ordered their grazing plate which was surprising (in a good way) because it was different to other grazing plates, looked really appetising and lots of colour. For meats we got the Indonesian beef satay which was good (succulent, well cooked and sauce was great but would have liked more sauce as it was only a drizzle). The other meat was the dry aged sirloin which was very good, nice char and perfectly cooked (beautifully pink on the inside). Definitely one of the best steaks I have ever had. Menu is limited with food options but everything we selected was...
