We went for high tea and was not happy with the (lack of) service. Any request we made was not followed through. For example, a few of asked for a top up of tea or coffee if and when the waitress was around our table and they would never come back or fulfil the request. Only after reminding them at least twice would we get what we asked for and even then we had to wait a long time. We asked if one of the staff could take a group photo of our table and was turned down and said she would find someone else to take it for us. That never happened so we ended up asking another customer to take it for us. They also did not allow us to takeaway any leftover food and said they did not allow for safety reasons which would have been fine if commerce.wa doesn't state that restaurants cannot deny takeaway citing safety reasons. We've also never had any issue with it any other high tea place and it's a shame they would rather throw the food in the bin than allow us to take it home. We also had to wait at least 15-20 minutes to pay for our meal at the end. Both incoming and outgoing customers were piling up at the entrance waiting to be attended to and there were a few staff looking at us waiting but not acting with any urgency. I finally had to find one of the staff to ask if we could pay at the front desk for our meal so we could leave. Even after then we waited another 5-10 minutes before anyone came to the front desk. There was also no management on the floor to deal with such issues which is disappointing as I doubt the feedback/complaints would be passed on for any improvement. Then we were charged a surcharge ($15) for paying via eftpos without being notified nor was there a sign to indicate the surcharge. Any apology on our feedback did not feel genuine either. Noted the group in front of us also left the same feedback. The food was fine but will not be going back there again as it was not worth...
Read moreVisited Montereys Brasserie with my husband on Valentine’s day for dinner. We left disappointed due to the poor food quality and service of staff.
Despite making a reservation a week in advance and requesting for a table near the windows, the staff led us to a table which was not situated any where close to a window. My husband had to make his request known to the manager and we were eventually re-allocated to our preferred seating. The number of staff Staff on hand appeared limited. We were not provided with the drinks menu and it took 15 mins for them to serve us a beer and a cocktail (Russian Mule). The cocktail concoctions was terrible. It just felt like i was drinking lime juice.
The dinner quality was equally bad. Some of the food had no labels and this made it hard for individuals with dietary restrictions to navigate the buffet. I felt I was playing a guessing game. There was only one live station i.e. pasta . The staff mending the station looked very unhappy to be there on valentine’s day and i can understand why, poor lass. My pasta was half cooked, given that the vegs were raw despite the chef cooking it on a pan. The Asian cuisine spread was so so bad, the tom yam fish had such a strong fishy taste and the tofu with broccoli was overcooked.
There were also limited plates and cutlery. I requested for a dessert spoon but was served a tablespoon instead. We were not able to savour the vanilla pudding with chocolate served in a miniature jar with such a large spoon. The dessert spread was plentiful but quality was not exceptional.
This has indeed been a terrible experience for my husband and I. We will definitely not recommend the buffet to anyone. Save your money and eat elsewhere.
The management needs to take a good hard look at improving the food quality and staff performance. A good buffet is one with a sumptuous spread of tasty food and top-notch ...
Read moreI hope to address this message to Rob Weeden, the manager of the hotel.
I have been a customer of Monterey’s for at least 5 years, even though I am left disappointed more often than not. But my latest disappointment with this visit has hit the absolute value of tolerance. I visited montereys in July to try their “Singaporean buffet” which has the food menus been published on the website and also during the checkout during the booking. Upon my arrival and at the first round of getting food, I have seen none and I mean that in the literal sense, none of the advertised "special menu" items to be available on the buffet table. It was for a fact that I came specifically for this advertised menu, so the disappointment to lay 120$ + drinks for two people and eat food that is just not at all exciting. Simply because it was falsely advertised and of average quality. Unfortunately my complaint to the restaurant manager was received with no compassion, remorse or a even simple courteous apology. Instead i was given a very cold “that is what is being served today” and that’s that. This experience put 4 star hotel dinning to shame and as well as this restaurant. Good bye forever Monterey's, it was “some” journey...
