Lions and Tigers Indian Restaurant – A Culinary Triumph in Fremantle. This was our third visit to Lions and Tigers, and if that doesn’t say enough, let me be clear—we’ve tried the rest, and this is simply the best in Perth. Since we live in the northern suburbs, dining here is usually linked with an overnight stay, and it’s well worth it every time.
Lions and Tigers offers a tapas-style experience, where you pick a few small plates and a main, and if you pace yourself, there’s even room for dessert. Onion Bhaji is always our starting point—my personal benchmark for any Indian restaurant. They nailed it. Crisp on the outside, soft (but not mushy) inside, perfectly balanced with pickled red onion. The cumin and coriander shine through without overwhelming. If only I could make them this good!
A standout was the Shark Bay scallops, replacing the octopus we once loved. No disappointment here—just beautifully cooked scallops, elevated with a masterful blend of spices and mushrooms. For the first time, we tried the Fried Sri Lankan Black Pork Curry with Jalapeños—hot, fiery, and absolutely packed with flavour. Huge, well-cooked chunks of pork paired with fragrant saffron rice made it an unforgettable dish.
No visit is complete without their sourdough naan with whipped ghee. I’ve had naan all over, but nothing comes close to this. It practically melts in your mouth, and with a dollop of whipped ghee and black cardamom salt, you might as well be in heaven.
To finish, we shared the Dark Chocolate Delice—a divine mix of peanut butter, roasted white chocolate, and caramel. Probably more than we needed, but completely worth it.
Drinks? My wife enjoyed a Shiraz, and I stuck to a Lions & Tigers Lager (or two).
The service is impeccable—attentive yet unobtrusive, with staff moving seamlessly between tables, making sure everything is just right. Booking is essential—this hidden gem won’t stay hidden for long. Outstanding food, brilliant service—you’ll want to tell your mates but maybe not too many!

Read moreNever have I ever encountered such an outrageous attitude from the manager/owner, however the other staff were very nice and courteous. The complete lack of understanding the core essence of being hospitable is astounding.
We had a table booked for 4 and phoned up that morning as 2 of our guests had to take their child to hospital and couldn’t make it. We were told that we would be charged $80 as they it was their policy due to their booking system (not the best start). The two of us arrived and were told before being sat at our table that we were making the venue look bad by sitting at a table for 4 (plenty of free tables around) and followed up by we’ll allow you $40 of your $80 to put towards your bill. (Why thank you for letting us spend our money at your venue, how gracious).
We ordered a couple of dishes and thought let’s just get out of here as the experience was tainted/ruined before even sitting down. The food arrived and aside from the horrendous attitude we had received upon arriving it was boring, tasteless and downright average.
As soon as we ate some of the food we got the bill and went to pay. It totalled $46 and we were there for only 45mins from arrival to leaving. I said to the lady with the disgusting attitude that I wasn’t going to pay the outstanding $6 as we’d already been charged $80 and occupied a table for a short time. She replied with “we run a business and it’s in our terms and conditions”, I said “I’ve owned hospitality businesses in Fremantle for 10 years (which I have) and if you think I’m going to pay the $6 you’re joking. She then replied with a condescending attitude of “well good on you, congratulations”. “You’re not welcome back here”, no danger of that happening, and none of our friends who have mentioned your venue on their list to try out will be...
Read moreA Fusion Fiesta at Lions and Tigers
From the hustle and bustle of Melbourne's vibrant culinary scene, my gastronomic journey brought me to the serene shores of Fremantle, where I discovered the delightful Indian fusion restaurant, Lions and Tigers.
From my first footfall inside this warm and inviting establishment, it was clear that Lions and Tigers was no ordinary dining experience. The restaurant has seamlessly merged traditional Indian flavours with innovative and modern culinary techniques, creating a fusion menu that is truly a class apart.
The roast tomato makhani is nothing short of an ingenious reimagining of the classic Indian curry. The makhani, with its delicate balance of tang and creaminess, served as a sublime canvas for the smoke-kissed paneer. The addition of sauteed kale and a crunchy sesame & hazelnut crumble added layers of texture that turned every mouthful into a delightful surprise. Paired with the perfectly spice-rubbed chicken, this dish exemplified the potential of Indian fusion cuisine.
The wagyu beef skewers took my taste buds on yet another roller coaster ride. The marriage of the succulent, tender wagyu with the spicy kick of the fermented chilli was divine. The cooling effect of the mint chutney, juxtaposed with the smooth chana hummus, enhanced the flavour profile, culminating in a mouthful that was an orchestra of tastes.
Being an ardent fan of Indian food, I found that Lions and Tigers ticked every box for me. It was more than just a restaurant; it was a celebration of Indian flavours, amplified by creativity and innovation. If this splendid eatery was in Melbourne, it would have definitely been my regular haunt.
To the culinary team at Lions and Tigers in Fremantle, thank you for a memorable gastronomic journey. Here's to many more...
