Possibly the best Asian restaurant in Perth. The atmosphere strikes a perfect balance between refined dining and a relaxed, rustic charm. Service is excellent—attentive, intuitive, friendly, and efficient—and the wine and spirits list is pretty decent. The food is of outstanding quality, making it a dining experience not to be missed. I’d highly recommend booking in advance. We visited on a cold, rainy Sunday evening (our reservation was for 7:45 PM), and the place was absolutely packed. Despite the crowd, we were seated immediately and service remained prompt throughout the night. Highlights from our meal included the oxtail dumplings—generously sized and filled with beautifully tender meat—Pad Kee Mao with beef, which featured silky flat noodles and a deeply flavorful sauce, and the lamb ribs, which were packed with meat that fell right off the bone. The kingfish ceviche was not only elegantly plated but also came with a sauce so good I found myself spooning up every drop. The crispy eggplant was another standout, full of flavor and texture. We finished with two stellar desserts: a tangy passionfruit pannacotta and a rich pandan chocolate ganache. Drinks were just as impressive—both the mocktail (Bangkok Breeze) and cocktail (Uncle’s Melons) were expertly crafted and delicious.

I have been so hugely disappointed by several 'recommended' restaurants ( some with 4.5 and 5☆ ratings ) around Fremantle to the extent that it has made me anxious about booking a table at any. So it has been a delight to have had Sunday Lunch at Emily Taylor Bar and Kitchen, courteously waited on by the most professional Fred. A party of three, we chose a variety of 5 dishes each of which was outstanding in clarity of flavour, beautifully and elegantly presented on their plates, perfectly measured in quantity and each served hot on warm plates. The limited choice of mains and sweets is very carefully curated so there is almost certainly something for every palate. I really dislike long menus. They almost always result in mediocrity at best. It is a very clever move on the part of the Emily Taylor enterprise to present a very limited sweet menu but deliver to the table exquisite works of art both visually and in flavours. The meal was also much less costly than expected and indeed much less than we have been charged for dire rubbish elsewhere. If there is a better kitchen than this in Fremantle or Perth I have yet to discover it.

Fantastic food, however there were a few service issues that could use brushing up on. The plates set on the table were dirty. We ordered lobster & truffle dumplings which were yummy (though I must point out, didn't taste too different to regular prawn ones), fried rice with blue swimmer crab which was 10/10, peking duck pancakes which was the best I've ever had, and salt & pepper squid which was delicious & flavourful. Most of the dishes came out pretty quick but we had already finished all the food and one of the dishes was still nowhere to be seen. We had to call out to a waitstaff to find out where the last dish was, it seemed they forgot about it. When we went to pay, we were charged the $104 for 5 dishes bundle (which we did not order), although individually the items all came up to $100, so we pointed this out and it was corrected immediately. We do feel that the restaurant has the responsibility to charge correctly rather than assume we were going for the bundle which turned out to be more expensive in our case. Overall the food was surpringly very authentic, we really enjoyed what we selected and hope to return.

We arrived without a reservation around 9:20 PM, and despite the late hour, the staff were very kind and welcoming. The place was still quite busy, which gave us a good first impression.

We chose the $125 tasting menu with five dishes of our choice. The service was excellent—polite, attentive, and very accommodating, especially considering that the entire menu was chili-based and we don’t eat spicy food. They did their best to adjust the dishes by removing the chili where possible.

However, we found the portions quite small, likely because we went for the five-course menu. Some dishes were a bit disappointing: the fried barramundi was quite bland, and the dipping sauce, which seemed coriander-based, completely overpowered the fish. The squid clearly wasn’t fresh—frozen for sure, similar to what you’d find at Coles.

The bao were good, although it would’ve been nice to know in advance that they were served as two separate dishes. The xiao long bao were great—no complaints there. The beef cheek was outstanding, definitely the highlight of the meal, rich and perfectly cooked.

Overall, we hope that the à la carte portions are larger and better presented, because at these prices, we expected more in terms of both quantity and plating.

After dinner, we paid and ended up going to eat somewhere else. Honestly, we probably...
