UPDATE Since my first review, at the end of this one, I've been back with my Wife, Mother, and Daughter. This time we ordered and shared Fish Cakes, Dumplings, the BBQ chicken with yellow curry again, Chicken Pad See Ew, Beef in Oyster Sauce, Deep Fried Ice Cream, and 3 Creme Brule. All of the mains where exceptional, and again I feel totally confident recommending Nahm Talay to anyone who enjoys Thai food. I forgot to do photos, but when the Creme Brule came out it was so unusual, in a good way, that I had to take a photo of the deserts. I have attached a picture of the Deep Fried Ice Cream, and 2 pictures of the green (that's right green) Creme Brule. My interpretation of the Creme Brule is the chef wants it to look like a pond, and it certainly does that. But not only does it look amazing, but the taste is fitting of such an elaborate desert.
ORIGINAL REVIEW
We showed up at the last minute and requested a table with no reservation on a busy night... so we had to take whatever table was available. Because of this we had to sit beside a high foot traffic area so, for this reason, I'm not going to rate the atmosphere as we didn't really get to experience it as it should be. If I was to guess I'd say I'd be giving 4 or 5 stars. I can say this, some of the tables overlooked the beach, and the other tables inside looked very cozy.
Having short listed the items we wanted I consulted with the waiter when he came to take our order. I ordered dumplings for entree and then basically let the waiter, after discussion, decide our mains. The waiter chose the BBQ Chicken with yellow curry and the Crispy Pork Belly Kailan, and then for dessert we had the coconut ice-cream.
The dumplings were pretty much on the money; very tasty. The BBQ Chicken with yellow curry was the star of the night, as it was tasty and a reasonable sized serve. The Crispy pork belly kailan could have matched the BBQ chicken for top ranking IF it had more pork; it was a little light on the serving size for the pork. Having said that the pork was D-vine. Ice-cream is ice-cream, but I also rate the desert as well. We are thinking of taking the family back for another dinner in the near future we enjoyed the meal so much.
Tina's simple comment when I asked her about the food? "the best Thai I have ever had". I think Tina sums it up nicely.
On the way out we thanked the waiter for his suggestions, told him it was, in my wife's opinion, the best Thai she has ever had, and...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWent there last night for dinner. positives - entrees were amazing. We had the āSpicy chicken And prawn Shumaiā and āspring rollsā both highly recommend. Also tried their jellyfish shots which were awesome! We were seated in an awesome spot too. Food came out extremely quick too!
Negatives - You can really tell they just opened. Most of the staff had no idea what was going on. When we were first seated we told our waiter we would like to order our drinks. He assumed we had just come to drink so took our cutlery, but then I had to explain no we are eating we just want to order a drink now. He then asked us what water we wanted, we responded and he left?? Never actually even came back with the water. It wasnāt until our entrees came out that we had to ask again for water. When we were halfway through our entrees our mains were squished onto our two person table. Another group of girls had been asked to leave when finished so we assumed the restaurant were really trying to get us to eat and be pushed out of there. When our mains were served the waitress asked if we wanted serving spoons. We said yes. She also never returned. We had the āchicken pad Thaiā which was meh. Had about 5 pieces of chicken in it. Tasted like any other pad Thai didnāt blow my mind. My friend had the āChicken and cashewsā which was an extremely small serving for a main. Also wasnāt very saucy and filled with bulk vegetables. Donāt really recommend that one. When we received our cocktails they looked different than I had assumed. I opened the menu and asked the bar tender āoh is it this one?ā I had actually been looking at the wrong picture. He literally yelled āNOā at as. Clearly Iād just been looking at the wrong photo, my mistake, but to be yelled at⦠was a bit weird.
Overall. Great entrees, mediocre mains. Waiters and waitresses are all over the place. Service is honestly 2 stars. Would give this place an overall 3.5. Locations awesome. But it was a pretty meh experience....
