About 16 years ago I dined at George's steak and seafood on a fairly regular basis. After having just returned to the Gold Coast for the first time in ten years, I was really looking forward to revisiting this restaurant as my memories of the place were very good. Sadly the quality has gone extremely down hill. I felt embarrassed because I took a friend for lunch and had told him how good the quality was. We were planning on having a really long lunch so we decided to order entrees quickly and then order mains afterward. We both decided to order the prawn cocktail for starters. It was such a disappointment. Firstly it didn't come with any bread (an incomplete entree) I had to order bread seperately which seemed like a money grab given the bread was around $12 The prawn cocktails were around $24 each. There were three small prawns per cocktail, they were textually soft, watery and not very fresh, I suspect that they had been frozen. On the plate was a small handful of completely undressed and dry salad leaves that tasted like the leaves had not even been cleaned, next to that was a portion of inedible cocktail sauce that was not house made. It was that bright pink sickly sweet fake stuff that you get in a cheap fish and chip shops for $0.30 It took 45 minutes for that plate of poor quality substandard rubbish to hit the table and the restaurant was almost empty at the time so no idea how it took so long to come out. Perhaps it's because that's how long it took to unfreeze the prawns? During the 45 minute wait time I was wanting to order a second drink but was unable to get a waiter to notice me. So I had to eat the ice from my old drink. By the time my friend and I had eaten our 3 awful prawns and left the inedible cocktail sauce and inedible salad - neither of us had any appetite for a main. So we decided to just pay and leave. We went for a drive a bit further down the coast and had a lovely lunch somewhere else. So around $60 for two entrees that were horrible and lousy service. I would not recommend this restaurant after...
Read moreIf I could give this place 10 stars I would! There were 5 of us that ate here about 3 days ago, it was around 9pm and we just so happened to stumble into this place because the restaurant we were meant to eat at only had half a menu. From beginning to end the service was phenomenal! We were greeted and felt welcomed by ALL wait staff, they all checked on us to make sure everything was goos. We only ordered mains and garlic bread and all I could say was once we were given our food it was nothing but perfection! Every single one of us had only praises for our meals, I myself ordered the fettuccine carbonara which is one of my favourite dishes to eat and is what I constantly order at almost every restaurant I visit and it was the best fettuccine carbonara I've ever had! We all loved our dishes and spent more time conversing about how amazing the food was than we did talking about anything else (we passed on feedback to the chef). The man who served us for taking care of payments was so friendly and helpful - because there were 5 of us we were doing split payments he was very apologetic about the way the system is set up and not very user friendly to doing split payments which was fine. We also got to meet the head chef and talked about how we're a group of kiwis and he is a New Zealander too! Upon leaving the restaurant we were farewelled by all staff. Our whole group agreed that this was the best place we've eaten at throughout our whole trip and will be coming back tonight for our last dinner before heading back to New Zealand, will definitely spread word about this...
Read moreHaving dined on many occasions @ Georges Sanctuary Cove our party of 7 was disappointed in the food/service/loud Sunday music & cost. The oysters were shrivelled & overcooked doused in sauce & bacon to excess. Scallopine Mediterranean was smothered in an overpowering heavy crab sauce which disguised the prawns & Morten bay bug which was de shelled & lost in sauce & scallopine was overcooked. The ½ bug @ Sanctuary Cove restaurant was served on top so diner could see it. Garlic bread was soggy. At Sanctuary Cove it was amazing & had a crisp finish. Very disappointed with garlic bread. The potatoes were nothing like @ "The Cove farè" they had an over boiled taste with no flavour or ganish. Fish fillet of Snapper was pronounced DOA (dead on arrival) as it was dry/overdone. No tartare was offered with any of fish dishes we had to ask. I had to google to ensure they were the same restaurants. Even the prices seemed so much dearer than SC & we were aware of surcharge on Sun. The staff at SC are so much better & more engaged with guests. At Broadbeach the waiters seemed more intent on perfecting their Italian/spanish/Greek accents & swagger! Many a timover the luncheon we were left guessing as to what was going on on with waiters chatting @ bar whilst we were trying to gain attention in a very patient way. We did not make any comments to staff on the day as we had overseas guests & preferred to leave on a pleasant note. See you @ Sanctuary Cove Georges Paragon our 1st choice...
