The Smokehouse Saga: A Carnivorous Catastrophe in Broadbeach. DO NOT EAT HERE
(TLDR: My colleague and I visited Smokehouse Meat & Co Grill & Bar in Broadbeach, enticed by a half-price ribs special. However, the restaurant, despite advertising the special, abruptly cancelled it claiming they were running low on ribs, but still allowed us to order the ribs at full price. This bizarre situation, prioritising profit over customer satisfaction, was a huge disappointment. I urge future patrons to reconsider their dining options in Broadbeach to avoid such a poor customer experience.)
The promise of a succulent steak on a solitary evening in Broadbeach led my colleague and I to the doors of the Smokehouse Meat & Co Grill & Bar. Armed with Google’s assurances and high expectations, we were blissfully unaware of the carnivorous calamity that awaited us.
Upon arrival, we were gratefully seated despite not holding a reservation, a sign that we interpreted as an omen of good fortune. Little did we know that the narrative would take a swift detour towards the bizarre.
Our initial perusal of the extensive menu was met with the tantalizing offer of a half-price Wednesday ribs special. The prospect of savouring these delicacies for a mere fraction of the price was too enticing to resist. Our order was ready. Or so we thought.
Enter stage left, the server, bearer of the confounding news: the ribs special was cancelled ten minutes before we attempted to order. Yet, to further stir the pot of perplexity, we were informed we could still order the ribs – albeit at full price. Out of ribs, but still serving ribs? This gastronomical paradox left us rightfully flabbergasted.
I prompted the server to summon the Manager, as he was merely the messenger. And his explanation, dear readers, was a jaw-dropping performance in itself. They were running out of ribs, so, logically, the half-price special had been scrapped to maximise profits. This blatant prioritisation of fiscal gain over customer satisfaction was not just astounding, but a brazen breach of trust.
Smokehouse Meat & Co Grill & Bar advertised a special. They offered no fine print, no terms and conditions that might allow them to rescind this offer at whim. Yet, in an unprecedented display of audacity, they did just that. The ribs special was pulled from under our noses, its enticing $22 price tag ballooned to a hefty $44.
Our brief sojourn at this establishment ended not with the expected satisfaction of a good meal, but a bitter aftertaste of disappointment. We left not just without our meal, but with a sense of indignation that lingered longer than any smoky aroma ever could.
In conclusion, prospective patrons of Broadbeach eateries, I beseech you to consider your options carefully. In a locale teeming with gastronomical delights, it would be a tragedy to let one's taste buds fall victim to such a nonsensical narrative. Your time, money, and appetite deserve better. At the end of the day, it is not just about savoring a good meal, but about the respect, honesty, and customer service that should come with it. Sadly, Smokehouse Meat & Co Grill & Bar fell drastically short on all accounts.
UPDATE I have been informed that this behaviour may constitute breach of Section 18 of the Australian Consumer Law which provides: a person must not, in trade or commerce, engage in conduct that is misleading or deceptive or likely to mislead or deceive.
UPDATE TWO The review reply from the owner makes no sense. There were no conditions given to us when we sat down, and their statement means that unless you book you cannot have the specials. The actual reason given to us at the time from the Manager was specifically that as they were running low on the ribs (at 7:10pm) that the special had been cancelled and the ribs were now full price. There was no mention of not being able to order the special due to us being a walk in. I stand by my review due to deceptive advertising of...
Read moreAbsolutely terrible, fast food quality but with worse presentation than hungry jacks. My partner and I chose this “restaurant” as their website markets themselves as a gourmet steak house, selling “golden steak” for $100, we rock up and it looks like a dine in kebab shop, the service was shocking, we had to ask for cutlery after our food had arrived. The “garlic bread” was 2 rock hard pieces of bread clearly heated up from a frozen packet, our side of potatoes was not only under cooked, but came out 10 minutes before my partners steak that it was actually a side for, while my partner had ribs and steak that came out on a restaurant standard plate, I ordered the “Smokey Burger”, which was $30, and it came out in a plastic basket, with a burger bun straight from coles. Once we were done we waited 15 minutes for someone to see us for the bill, we then thought maybe we have to pay at the counter as we were waiting so long, so we got up and the owner then advised us that he is actually meant to bring the bill to the table so we sat back down and waited again for him to bring us the bill. To top it all off, I had to run to the bathroom straight away as my stomach reacted the same way as if I had a McDonald’s meal while hungover 👍🏼
UPDATE:
Please read the restaurant’s response. They are claiming that our review isn’t valid because we ate the food… yes, we were hungry and didn’t want to waste the money we will inevitably be spending. I like McDonald’s and hungry jacks, however I wasn’t expecting McDonald’s and hungry jacks quality when I paid $30 for a burger. The “Smokey burger” may be your best seller, because as mentioned in my review, you market yourselves as a gourmet restaurant so naturally people think it is gourmet food and the Smokey burger on paper sounds really good so naturally people are going to order it. However, for $30 I was not expecting my burger to come out on a Coles bun and in a plastic basket, while my partner’s ribs and steak were well presented on a plate. On another note, the “cutlery” that was ready on the table was a butter knife each. Food came out with a steak knife and no fork until we had to...
Read moreWe had a fun evening trying out a great new South African styled flame grilled restaurant in Broadbeach. They have only been open a few weeks; however they are certainly setting the bar high in regards to their selection of quality meat dishes and cocktails in Broadbeach. The restaurant has nice interior and is well set up with bar tables at the front and tables for couples, groups & family in the main area. There is a cocktail bar at the back and a wonderful fridge set up displaying all of their meats, which is such a great idea as it is nice to see what you are buying before you eat it. What is great about this place is how passionate the staff and chiefs are about the meat they serve and the meat they have on offer. For our starter we had the Buffalo BBQ wings, yummy tender chicken. Our main we went with the Kings Feast to share and wow this sure is a feast! Was a perfect size for us to share. It came with wonderful selection of flame grilled meats, which included a lamb ribs, (you can choose either lamb, beef or pork) mini lamb skewers, shortcut meat with grilled pita bread, salad and chips and a couple of sauces to compliment the meat. Greg particularly enjoyed the ribs which are marinated in their secret sauce. My hubby loves his meat and being from a farm expects a lot in regards to the meat he eats and how it was cooked and he had to say it was some of the best meats he has eaten. I can be a little fussy with my meat as l don’t really like it to rare, however have to say they did well to grill the meat for me, without taking away the tenderness and wonderful flavours of the meat. When Greg mentioned he was from a farm they even brought out some short beef for us to try and it was honestly so soft and tender, Greg was super surprised and enjoyed the piece of specialty meat, OMG. We had cocktails and l had the bloody margarita. Was fun watching the barman create the amazing cocktails on offer. We would certainly recommend this restaurant, whether you are a family, group or couple and look forward to trying more of their amazing meats...
