I’ve been enjoying the George’s experience for 8 years or more , when it was on the main drag of Coolangatta . My mother and I always loved the Seafood Chowder and Garlic Bread . I’ve been waiting for it to re open again for almost 2 years or more . So was excited to learn it was now located upstairs in The Strand . My first time there after the re opening , I was terribly disappointed with the Seafood Chowder . It wasn’t the flavour I remembered in the past from years ago , and almost “ watery “ if I had to describe it . I went again recently for a friends birthday , and ordered it again . Ummmm , well , I have to say , “ Have you changed the recipe ? “ It was , I don’t know what to say , ‘ lumpy ? ‘ and surprisingly had no flavour . The garlic bread I ordered was not the same , it was , you’d say , almost toast ! ? I WAS BEYOND DISAPPOINTED . The lady concierge was a bit on the cranky/snappy side . Our table service , although he was friendly , was forgetful . We asked for all the food to come together , and our friend got her meal first . I asked continuously for more water , seeing as you cannot get a jug of water at the table . There were 3 of us , he came back with 2 glasses of water , and I waited and waited for mine , trying to get anyone’s attention for another glass of water . Coming from a Food and Beverage background , I am very observant and while trying to be patient because I’ve walked a mile in their shoes , I/we couldn’t help notice the lack of experience . Our waiters friendliness almost distracted us from the service , but alas didn’t escape the eagle eye of an industry we’ve been in for collectively 60 years . If George was there I would of loved to speak with him about the Chowder . Please feel free to reply George , I’d love to know if the recipe has changed , or maybe the kitchen ran...
Read moreWe have found the newer George's has been betterthen the old. Catching up for dinner with friends tonight, we decided to go here. Cannot begin to tell your how disappointing this place is now. We ordered drinks Entreè's were, garlic bread with 6 oyster mornay, 6 kilpatrick. Mains were 1 lobster mornay Snapper scandali And 2 prawns, and 2 Avocardo and prawn dishes that were in the entreè menu, but we asked for them to be served as a main, which means they just add more prawns to the dish. The drinks arrived, then Entreè's came out, within 2 minutes the mains arrived. This gave us no time to relax or enjoy any of it. On second glance the oysters were so small, the mornay was not cooked properly, our prawns and avocardo dish had 3 prawns, we quickly realised that they had given us entreè size 🤦♀️ I made a query with another waiter who told us, we should have had more prawns, as it was a main order. Horrible small meals served with no thought to what we ordered and no time to enjoy it even if we could have. When we were given the bill, I again questioned our waiter who got it wrong and his answer was I am new and I don't think they do that dish as a main... when we were already told there should have been more prawns. I might also add the chips were dry and warm. Not appealing at all. None of it was. They want you in and out, very disappointing and very poor service and no attention to the customer's. Won't waste much more of our time or money as it's pathetically no value for money...
Read moreVisited Coolangatta on Friday the 12th January 2018 for lunch. Had been wanting to dine there for several years - the opportunity presented itself. Sadly disappointed! Stood at the entry waiting to be seated with a staff member having her back to the entry - had to be notified by another staff member we were there. When finally greeted, we were seated next to a column with disintegrating artwork with disintegrating wall behind it. The staff member introduced herself and said our waiter would be with us soon. He was - suprisingly! Had to prompt the waiter to tell us what the specials were and request water which was more than lukewarm. Not a great start to the dining experience. Ordered the platter from the "specials" and the marinara. The special - not at all special. Three half overcooked bugs with next to no flavour served with 4 x prawns, 2 x scallops in a garlic sauce with a piece of perch. This was served atop of bed of quite dry rice - presumably to fill the plate. The Marinara looked delicious (presentation) however, lacked in quality and quantity. With the meals and 2 glasses of wine = $80....rather overpriced for what was received. The Marinara had a good (not great) taste but needle in a haystack to find the seafood. Perhaps the restaurant should aim for quality as opposed to quantity or alternatively, the express component should mean the restaurant could do take away and at a substantially reduced price. IF YOU HAPPEN TO BE VISITING THE AREA, DON'T...
