I recently stayed in this hotel and maybe I just got a "bad" apartment. As far as I understand, the rooms are individually owned, so it very much depends on how the owner is keeping the apartment. Cons: No oven, just a small, old, and smudged pen, a few Tupperwares, and old kitchen utensils. Air conditioner was very noisy and looked like it had never been cleaned before. The whole apartment was only superficially cleaned (there was dirt piled under the bed/couch, around the laundry machines, etc.). The toilet paper holder was broken so it was more on the floor than else, very unhygienic. The laundry machine and dryer were filthy. There were stains on the wall in the bathroom, and I don't even want to think of what. Some receptionists always had a very bad attitude, and I have never understood why. Pros: The place is close to the beach. There is a Woolworth close by in the Mall and plenty of other shops and restaurants. It is good for families and people like myself who want or need a full kitchen. Just make sure you ask for an oven (clean) and bring your own utensils. I have bought a coffee machine and air fryer from Kmart to make up for what the apartment wasn't providing. The hotel has a nice pool that I saw kids enjoy, and it is right next to the beach. The gym is very small, but it does have cardio machine, multifunctional cable machine, a bench and free weights. Coolangatta is a very beautiful place. It is quiet and easy-going, with a very relaxing vibe. Overall, this place must have been nice in the 90s. Now it needs a remake and new staff.

I was very disappointed with my recent stay at Oaks Gold Coast Calypso Plaza Suites. The hotel is in a great location, close to the beach and shops, but the overall cleanliness and condition of the rooms was poor. On the first night of our stay, my wife sat down in a dining chair holding our 4 month old daughter and it broke, causing her to fall and injure her tail bone (luckily our daughter wasn't injured). The staff's only comment was, they were sorry, don't have anyone on site to fix this and that we will not be charged for the damage 'WE' caused to the apartment. I found a second chair that was loose and would have also broken if we had sat on it. Many of the in-room facilities were old, worn and in poor condition. The general cleanliness of the room was also poor. The bathroom was dirty with mould growing on the tiles and shower screen door, with visible crack in the wall and very worn fittings. Overall I would not recommend Oaks Gold Coast Calypso Plaza Suites. The hotel is in a great location, but the cleanliness and condition of the rooms are poor and outdated. The staff's lack of concern for our safety was most worrying.

We booked a two bedroom "pool view" apartment through Classic Holidays for two weeks. We've stayed here before and had a full kitchen with views of the ocean and pool area. I brought 8 frozen meals and groceries for two weeks. There's only a bar fridge instead of the usual full size fridge & freezer. Luckily our car fridge could be used as a freezer but the bar fridge is packed. I'm concerned about the large piece of ham we brought. There's no water jug, ice cube trays or even a large bowl to make a salad. None of the basics. We arrived at 6pm and the oven didn't work when we tried to heat our dinner. The two bedrooms are actually two separate apartments, one a hotel room layout and the other has the kitchen. You need the key to go back and forth as they're separated by a foyer. I've paid insurance so, sadly, we'll be cancelling our second week. I'm very disappointed as I've been ill and this was the break I desperately needed. The photo shows the view from our "pool view" room.

Where do I even start? It's been an absolute disaster. A holiday we were so looking forward to, paid peak prices to stay 4 nights due to the time of year however nonetheless a standard should be upheld all year round. Clearly not. Apart from the location and the actual pool there is nothing else going for this hotel...actually it is more like a motel.

We checked in to room 414. There was a distinct odour coming from what we assume was the filthy aircon. As we walked down the hallway to get to our room originally it was evident how dated the property was however while we knew the room would be older style we had hoped it would be clean and at an acceptable standard. Everything in the room was disgusting. Extreme amounts of dust everywhere, dirty and stained carpet, lack of maintenance throughout the room with no upgrades in a very long time. Mould in the shower the room just felt revolting. Beds uncomfortable and towels were stained and very old. I raised my concerns with reception we were told there was nothing they could do and to sleep the night in there with a potential for a room change the next day. The room was unhygienic.

The next morning I took my children for a swim. While the pool is nice and the view the pool area itself was also not maintained and the day beds were again filthy with leaves scattered throughout the pool. Gardens not maintained.

After going back and forth with reception they said we could move rooms across the hotel to a different room this time room 260. We were told this room was one of the best and well looked after. We had to pack up our belongings and move rooms approx 12pm instead of enjoying our holiday we had to dedicate time to this when we had already spent so much time regarding the issue already not to mention the stress as we had paid over $2000 for 4 nights. When we arrived to the new room we observed the furniture to be somewhat more modern however the cleanliness was exactly the same. We had lugged all of our belongings and our two children across the hotel for the same standard. I had asked for this to not be the case and was assured it wouldn't be. Room 260 was filthy with dust, dirty and mouldy shower which hasn't been cleaned properly, several cockroaches throughout the kitchen, mould spores on the vents on the aircon (this was absolutely shocking how bad it was), uncomfortable bedding, bedding and towels feel dirty - stained, broken clothes horse, crockery dirty same as room 414 nothing about this hotel is clean or maintained.

We had one helpful reception staff however other then that there has been no further support I have submitted a complaint with Oaks and have asked for the hotel manager to contact me - haven't heard from either party.

We have had to request additional sheets for the sofa bed for our children to sleep which took over an hour to receive and our 2 young children waiting to go to bed. We offered to collect the sheets however were told they would be bought up to the room.

Bar and restaurant not running.

We stayed here 6 years ago and the decline since then is astronomical. We will not be recommending to anyone. I will ensure I share our negative experience to avoid people booking a holiday at this motel as it's a complete rip off and a waste of money. The only pro here is the location.

Will never ever stay here again. Absolutely shocked a how terrible this has been. Huge let down and I will be...

A really convenient location positioned centrally To a lot that tweed has to offer with great staff that are helpful and friendly, the inclusions are great with washer and dryers, a coffee capsule machine and an amazing pool....but for the price point i feel like a lot of maintenance/upkeep needs completing for it to be good value. Exposed sharp corners and the lack of end caps and bounce/stopping pads on shower doors were one issue that stood out to me as both a piercing and shattering hazard. The toilet roll holder was badly broken (and at the same time would only take minutes and minimal $$$ to fix), it was sagging down and off the wall,as a result the paper roll would not stay on when spun. One of the security latches in the bathroom exterior window was also broken. Security bolts missing on ground floor street facing doors made me a lot less confident about security and head height mounted tvs reminded me that corners are sharp.( I am 5-10 on a good day and i encountered issues) The hallway entry(main inside) door lock was also intermittent in secure operation. A lack of flyscreen doors also meant that getting a fresh ocean breeze also meant contending with curious winged guests. The safe is not bolted in and is of questionable quality. The housekeeping schedule is downright insulting being one housekeeping visit only only on the eighth day-Realistically every second day should be the absolute minimum if the room is $420+ per night and 6 coffee capsules should never be an extra charge if they are only replaced every seven days. House keeping staff should also up their game a little,we had dirty teapot along with some dirty crockery, underneath the bed was several used tissues and a childs toy ball and the decorative pillows were definitely overdue for a wash. Level one ocean view rooms should be avoided as it is an obstructed view and the room patio is not exclusive. Overall it has its good points....some great points in fact but it definitely falls short of being a 4 star hotel which is unfortunate as the requirements for that level could easily be achieved with some targetted/increased maintenance and housekeeping in combination with some simple policy changes. If you can get a heavily discounted room ( i mean we would have to be talking half the regular price) on the right floor it might be a good fit. I didn't hate my stay at oaks calypso.....I just...
