What happened to Hurricanes Surfers Paradise?!
After visiting Hurricanes Surfers Paradise for many years, we were so excited to finally return after the renovations following the storm damage. Unfortunately, what greeted us was nothing short of a total disappointment - a shadow of the restaurant we once loved.
To start, we asked for extra chicken on a Caesar salad - something we’ve done countless times before. This time? A flat-out no. Apparently, the only option was to order an entire chicken plate for $30 just to get more chicken on a salad. Absolutely ridiculous.
Next, we requested the Monkey Gland sauce, a classic Hurricanes staple that’s been on the menu for years. Yet again - “no longer available.” It feels like everything that made this place iconic has been stripped away. We then ordered the Wagyu burger, expecting that rich, juicy, full-flavoured burger Hurricanes was known for. What arrived was a dry, flavourless, sad excuse for a burger that looked nothing like the premium $30 dish advertised. Honestly, I’ve had food truck burgers for half the price that were ten times better. Charging $30 for that is absolute highway robbery.
Even the greens were underwhelming - cold, lifeless, limp, and clearly an afterthought. For years, we’ve travelled from Sydney and made Hurricanes a must-do stop on every trip to Surfers Paradise. Sadly, this experience has put an end to that tradition. Between the menu changes, the lack of flexibility, the steep prices, and the subpar food, we will never be back. What a waste of $70 and a real shame to see such a once-great restaurant fall this far. Hopefully, management sees this and takes serious action - because right now, this isn’t the Hurricanes we...
Read moreHurricane’s Grill & Bar in Surfers Paradise is a well-known Australian restaurant chain celebrated for its flame-grilled steaks and legendary ribs. I have visited the Sydney branch before, but the Surfers Paradise location is truly the best in the entire country. From food quality to service and atmosphere, this branch stands out above all others.
Located in the heart of Surfers Paradise near Cavill Avenue and the beachfront, the restaurant offers a stylish and lively dining space perfect for families, tourists, and special occasions. The modern décor, comfortable seating, and open kitchen create a warm and energetic atmosphere. Their signature pork, beef and lamb ribs are slow-cooked, basted in Hurricane’s famous sauce, and cooked to perfection—tender, flavorful, and consistently outstanding. The menu also includes steaks, burgers, seafood, chicken and vegetarian options, paired with cocktails, wines and delicious desserts.
Portions are large and great value for money, and the service is fast and friendly. Whether dining inside or enjoying the balcony seating with city or ocean views, every visit feels memorable. It is highly recommended to book ahead during weekends and holidays due to its popularity.
Although Hurricane’s has several locations across Australia, the Surfers Paradise branch delivers the best overall dining experience. Its combination of premium food, excellent service, and vibrant atmosphere makes it a must-visit restaurant on the Gold Coast. If you love ribs and steak, this is simply the top Hurricane’s...
Read moreHurricanes was our go to place when we came to the Gold Coast. We would always frequent it at least once during our visit. After our visit yesterday, I believe it will be our last time. Don't get me wrong, the staff were amazing. Looking after us all the time. Sung my daughter happy birthday for her birthday. But the change in menu frustrated all of us that attended. The grilled menu used to be inclusive of a side. That is all gone. You now have to pay for your standard sides. The sizing isn't even the same. It now comes in a small bowl. So not only do I have to pay for it, I'm also getting less than I used to when it was included. They were also sub par quality to what they used to be. Everyone else's ribs were good. But my lamb ribs tasted watered down as if they were frozen then cooked. We also asked for water for the table. First, they didn't even mention that we had to pay for the water. They brought out a bottle of still and a bottle of sparkling (which we did get refunded as we did not request sparkling). I don't mind so much that we had to pay for the still water. More that we weren't made aware of the fact that it would cost us money. Finally, the change in menu is upsetting. Previously there was some amazing pork belly options and wings that you did. They are all gone now. Plus some other great options that are all gone now. All of these reasons together are why I will never frequent...
