Iyara Thai Restaurant — Restaurant in Gold Coast City

The most disappointing Thai restaurant I have ever been to in my life. This is the worst Thai food I have ever eaten. I came here based on the reviews and I don’t know how they got a 4.7. Reasons for a 1 star review and this is rare for me to give someone a 1 : the entree calamari was chewy (just cheap frozen calamari) the treasure bags and spring rolls were burnt, it had that disgusting fried smell like they don’t change the oil. The treasure bags were not cooked well inside but burnt on the outside, a concern. the food is not freshly made, there is no sound of woks in the background. the pad see ew was not cooked well, was chewy and hard with no flavour, they also had cauliflower in there which is odd chicken cashew stir fry was bland and this definitely was not cooked fresh on a wok before it arrived on the table. The chicken tasted wrong, like old chicken the two main dishes felt like they were warmed up and not made to order. the rice was gluggy and not your jasmine rice like you normally get the water had strawberries and apples pieces inside - strange the food decoration was weird, oranges slices on pad see ew service was good but weird, almost trying too hard. I came home and read more reviews and the 1 star reviews were spot on. People have been food poisoned here. This is appalling !!!! Plus it’s expensive for what you get, very disappointing. I can’t believe I took my family here. Do not go here. I won’t be going to a Thai restaurant again unless I see it from the outside and see the kitchen with woks and real Thai people running it...

I am not one to normally post a negative review but this experience was disappointing. The location is great for holiday makers… food was quick for a public holiday. To some, that can raise a potential red flag, others might think this is great.. however we just paid $62 for only rice noodles and two soft drinks. I ordered chicken pad Thai and vegetable pad Thai, and it was only noodles!!! No vegetables and hardly any chicken and the fact that no one came over to serve us properly or check on us when the food had arrived was even more disappointing. The next problem was.. we had no forks to eat with and no one to be seen to ask for assistance so my partner ended up having to get up and go take forks from another empty table. The place was completely dead with only 3 families in there and the waitresses were just standing around at the front counter talking. We ended up just eating it, and dealt with it because we were too tired. But after spending the night not feeling well.. I now wish I had been ‘that person’ and said something. Please note: If you’re looking for the meal to be Gluten Free because you have an intolerant or have Coeliac disease - DON’T EAT HERE. We are on holiday here on the gold coast and saw this restaurant from our hotel room and thought we'd try it out....best decision ever! From the moment we walked in we were greeted by friendly and courteous staff, the service was impeccable from start to finish. The fruit infused water was refreshing and delicious!! The food is to die for, so fresh and full of flavour!! We were even treated to a complementary butterscotch schnapps shot each after our meal. Thank you so much for a wonderful evening, we'll be back before our holiday ends!!

Second visit: All we can say is WOW!! The service is impeccable, very warm and welcoming, the owner is on the floor and is one of the most gracious hosts we've ever met. All of the staff are welcoming, polite and friendly, they ensure you feel at home! The food is absolutely incredible, fresh, flavourful and plentiful. Tonight was our second visit within our week's holiday, we cannot wait to come back on our next Gold Coast getaway!! The massaman beef curry was amazing and the chicken satay sticks are like heaven on earth! This is the best Thai food we've ever had (including in Thailand!!)
