Well, where do I begin? I'll start this journey 1 year ago, almost to the day now I think about It, with my first visit to saffron. Bright eyed and bushy tailed my friends and I indulged in what can only be described as the pinnacle of authentic Indian cuisine in the gold coast. Coupled with service that left nothing to desire, saffron cemented itself as THE dinner destination. Skip ahead a year and a handful of other successful visits I find myself here composing my first ever Google review. As you can probably already tell it is not a good one. The old fable of Icarus comes to mind when thinking of saffron and the more I think of it the more suited it actually is but I'll come to that later, for now let's get into the details of the night. My friends and I (7 in total) arrived and we were seated at a lovely long table. About 20 minutes later we were finally given menus, which is not an issue, if anything a courtesy letting us catch up and converse. A further 20 minutes passed and our orders were in. Having some saffron virgins in the group, myself and fellow saffron veterans were singing it's praises. Skip ahead 1 hour 20 minutes! And the first of the entrees started filtering out, bad start. Entrées finished and our hunger only made more intense, the beginnings of the over 50's PGA tour started arriving at the table next to us with their cult like traditions and rituals which consisted of lying on the ground like a wombat on command and singing an out of key version of Bob Marley's classic "buffalo soldier". As you can imagine...not good. I'm honestly more upset at that song being ruined for me. Anyway sorry I digress. The mains finally arrived after 2 and a half hours ! At this point our ethos was eat and leave, as the party next to us were beginning to explain to us what the rules were for the drinking games they were playing. As I tried my first spoonful of my kofta butter masala I had this sudden and very intense feeling of nostalgia, I was immediately transported back to winter in Scotland. My hands, numb, my nose, running. I was yet again sat at my mother's kitchen table having a bowl of heinz tomato soup after a long day of sledging. Now I know what you are thinking, what are you on about?. This curry I was served was basically tomato soup with some spices thrown in for good measure, a bit of bread with a thick layer of butter would not have been out of place at the table. Despite this shock it was actually quite nice I'll not mislead you by saying it wasn't. Anyway we finish up and go to pay, the party and I made our way to the desk and when we were asked how everything was, we replied with "food was lovely but service and the table next to us wasn't". Now at this point I'll take you back to the comparison I made earlier, the Icarus one ? Well if you aren't familiar with the tale Icarus was a demi god who flew too close to the sun and it melted his wings but as he fell from grace he was reported to laugh hysterically all the way down. And that is exactly what we were met with when we complained about the service and the company... Laughter. The man laughed in our faces. Saffron laughed all the way down from the top, landing flatly on the "will not go there again" pile. If you made it this far, I thank you for your time and wish you...
Read moreWe will never go again!!! A waste of our time and money. We had a reservation made in advance. We greeted kindly and welcomed. the area that we sat in had no air-conditioning. We asked for the soft drinks menu, and were told that they did not have one, the waitress just in a hurry recited this to us. I asked for non alcoholic beer, which I was told that do not have any to serve. We sat sipping our water for well over twenty minutes, with no one acknowledging us. At this point I got up, and went to the waitress's that were chatting away, to ask if they would be available to take our order. The waitress explained that the rest of the waitress's were on training and are not allowed to take orders. The restaurant was NOT even busy!! I asked for the manager, and was told that there was no manager available, just the acting one. I explained to the acting manager of all our concerns thus far, and all I got was a "sorry" the owner who sat behind us with paper work did not even acknowledge his customers. The acting manger than moved us to an area where air-conditioning was available, which we thought was great. We asked to order, we placed our orders, mainly from a selection of only four "large Plates" and one dish from there ordinary menu. Ten minutes later after taking our order, the waitress came out, and said that Lamb Shoulder is not available. I asked why didn't she tell us that in the first place? no answer, stood dumb found in front of us. I could found two items on the entrée, which I ordered. Not quiet what I wanted. My meal arrived, ten minutes before my family's meals arrived. I waited to for everyone's meal to arrive, and my meal was cold by the time. We started dining, and called the waiter back ten minutes later, to ask him about our other item we had ordered with the mains. It was clearly forgotten. We paid our bill in the end, with no apologies from management and staff at all. We were clearly ripped off, and left with a BAD taste. Absouloutly disgusting, and total rubbish for the way there website describes them. PLEASE DO NOT WSTE YOUR MONEY....
Read moreMy wife and I decided last minute on Valentines Day to go for an Indian. We walked into the restaurant and waited by the sign for a member of staff to seat us. A number of staff saw us waiting by the sign but no one approached us and after 6 minutes I went over to staff and informed them that we had been waiting and no one had even approached us to ask if we were ok. I asked for a table for 2. The male member of staff asked if I had booked and I replied No but was there any chance of fitting us in. He was polite and said he could be it would be 10 minutes to prepare the table. I asked if we could get a drink at the bar whilst we waited for our table and he replied yes. We were left with a food and drinks menu and waited for approximately 5 minutes with no one serving us at a quiet bar area. A member of staff then took us to our table and to stop us being forgotten about once we had sat down I told the waitress we were ready to order food and drinks. Order taken and starter arrived 10 minutes later and I had to ask were our drinks were. The waitress said she would ask and disappeared for a couple of minutes before returning with them. Not the most difficult of drinks orders a lemonade and a coke. When the main came I asked for a jug of water which I must admit was cold and welcoming. I did expect new plates and cutlery with our main but was left with using the same ones for our starter which I felt was poor. The staff were polite however had no customer interaction skills which in the industry they are in I would say was a requirement. The food was ok but the curry sauce for the chilli beef was very oily and somewhat tasteless , saffron rice was lovely I would not recommend dining here as I was left frustrated and annoyed by the lack of communication and the food just being adequate and...
