Upstairs at the kitchens is starting to hum with a great selection of fusion restaurants now. Mad Asian Kitchen and Bar raise the bao to a new level! Great service from attentive staff who know when to come to your table (not seconds after you get it mid mouthful like every other place!).
We had a bunch of share plates which were all presented well and tasted good. All food was well cooked and the atmosphere is chilled but on point. Food came out quick and well spaced as a meal progression of share plates.
Only thing I'd prob like to have seen is the menu out on a board or in a stand to pick up on the way past to view in front instead of asking for one....an observation rather than criticism.
The fitout of the restuarant is well thought out with great colour scheme. I like the boothlike wall seats and quality of tableware. Wooden disposable chopsticks but also offered forks and spoons as an option.
Tunes played are the right volume and generic without being gimmicky. Good selection of music played during our time there.
This will be the summer location for chill'd weekend vibes and great plates late afternoon once the sun has gone down. This is the only kitchens restaurant with an outside view btw. Access directly from 2 upstairs normally not too busy car parks and a plethora of downstairs options for parking too.
2 beers, 3 share plates for circa $40 was not bad I thought value for money wise.
Will be back.
Looking at the only negative feedback regarding the Poke Bowl so far, I think the maturity of the reviewer shows. 1 star for wrong temp rice and avocado that was firm is a bit harsh.
I would encourage anyone who notices an issue with their food to speak up when you notice it. Restaurants can't improve to meld with customer needs unless as a consumer you say something. Every decent establishment will always try to make your experience one that makes you want to return.
Upon return I will update this review after several months of operation. 👌👍
Review Update!!!!
Last couple of times here meals take an age to come out. Something has changed, maybe the chef went mad like the name of the place says.
Seriously though....menu has changed and become much smaller with limited options compared to what it was. The Vegan Tofu options are gone mostly. Vegetarian is limited now.
Meals do take some time, tonight they are about 30-40mins for a meal to come out, longer last time.
The beer was warm and not cold, food is nice enough but just takes too long im afraid.
Mad Asian needs to lift its game. We want to patrons your establishment but want options and decent time for food to arrive.
Call me Mad but I'm not as Mad about Mad Asian as in earlier times. Game needs to be lifted.
Service from staff is...
Read moreI often walk past the Mad Asian kitchen which is set on the 1st floor of the Robina kitchens area lots of pretty lights and a well lit bar inside the restaurant and think how welcoming it looks and is always pretty busy which is always a good sign, For my Birthday in March my husband booked a table as a surprise for our family. We were shown to a little area set apart from other tables so it felt special being tucked away in the restaurant. We had such a lovely evening. We were well looked after by the waiting staff. The signature cocktails were mouthwatering .The Passionfruit Sorbet was a firm favourite for me as you will see from my photos I had a couple of those ! My son ordered the Strawberry Mojito mock tail which was perfectly made. I highly recommend the cocktails and there was a good choice of decent wines. Everything single dish we ordered was very tasty and cooked to perfection and presentation was excellent. At the end of the evening the owner Stan came and introduced himself ,we can see a why he has been successful with the Mad Asian and the other restaurants which I was unaware Stan also owns and we have eaten at one of those too. Stan has lots of ideas and didn’t mind sharing these it’s so lovely to see how well the restaurants are doing and we hope the restaurants continue to grow. Sadly, we did not have much room for trying the desserts but we did manage one portion of Deep Fried Ice-cream. Brought out by the lovely staff wishing me a very happy Birthday. It certainly was a very memorable night. We certainly recommend this wonderful bar and restaurant and will return for sure. Thank...
Read moreOur entree the karaage chicken was awesome and my daughters meal of the noodles was big and great. Mine however was awful.
I am on low carb diet and as such don't eat potato or any carb laden things. I ordered the salmon sizzle plate and asked it to be cooked rare. I exchanged the veggies which the person serving me could only tell me was potato for just a salad. The salmon came out massively overcooked to the point of incredibly dry and almost impossible to get down. I asked for garlic sauce and got teriyaki. I asked for Mayo because the salmon was so dry and I was charged for it. The portion size for the price was also small.
They did not check on us once during the meal to ask how everything was or to see if we needed extra drinks etc. There was no warning of how severely hot the food was and both my daughter and I burned our mouths quite badly.
When I spoke to the guy who was management I assumed I was quite rudely told that the sizzling plate needed the vegetables to slow the cooking of the salmon - a point not told to me by the lady I ordered from or I would have chosen something else. I had not eaten this before so didn't know this would give me such an awful outcome.
I left feeling mistreated and really ripped off to be honest. If there had just been an apology for the awful quality of the food or the waitress not telling me of the outcome of swapping stuff, it would have been OK and smoothed things over. I was just dismissed and forced to pay a $68 bill $27.50 of which was the...
