When I first walked by Nude Amigos, I was SO excited to try it while visiting the Gold Coast. We even had a lady approach us saying how wonderful the food was, and how the chef is from Mexico City, so as a California native I was so excited to have some authentic Mexican food. I made a booking for the next evening and paid $70 to reserve my booking. Last night we arrive to our reservation on time, and were left standing at the bar for 5 minutes before anyone acknowledged us and then seated us. Our first round of drinks took quite a while, and it was clear there wasn’t enough front of house staff needed for the evening. We ordered the trio chips and dip, I ordered vegan elote as my main, and my husband ordered steak fajitas. They delivered my main before our chips and dip, which was awkward. Now I worked at the best destination Mexican restaurant in Honolulu, Hawaii for years and have enjoyed west coast American Mexican food my whole life. Last night was the first time I’ve ever seen fajitas come out- not sizzling. It was served on the correct platter, so either it sat too long and they served it after it sat too long, or I would love to know if that is their usual presentation for fajitas. I ordered 3 classic margaritas with no salt, and every single time it came out with a salt rim. Andrea/Andria who was our server and is a supervisor should have paid attention to detail, because that is embarrassing to have to send my drink back 3/4 times last night over a simple modification. There were 2 tequila issues. The first one, the menu had patron tequila shots with x% ABV, but the one they has in stock was a different one with lower %ABV, but we still paid the price of the higher ABV. And then my husband wanted to order a special type of tequila and even though the drink menu had a whole page of Raicilla options, the restaurant had NONE. My last qualm, is that the staff started breaking down the restaurant and literally dragging heavy wooden tables and chairs across the floor at 9pm. According to current Google hours, Nude Amigos is open till midnight every night. When I asked the staff what time they closed, they said the kitchen was already closed, and they were closing down at 9:30pm. No one ever asked us if we wanted desert, or anything else from the kitchen before they closed it. So we basically wrapped up with the drinks we had, as the staff were essentially closing down everything around us. So much potential, but...
Read moreA year ago I left a glowing review, been back approx dozen times since but I don't know if it's new owners or they've expanded, this time will be the last.
I took to sending an email rather than delete my old review, but it's been completely ignored. (I've waited 3 weeks for a response) So figured google review was fair.
Do not believe anything on website, apparently the staff who very rudely told us they do not do children's menu (as advertised) and even their hours are incorrect (the tone that this was relayed to start our night for a booking of 10 people was appalling). Basically told me they never did children's menus despite me saying we had been regulars and specifically come there with our children (that night we had 6 kids!). They told us to just order them the adult meals (yeah sure at $35 per child, no drink or desert!). Wish we just went elsewhere at this point as honestly it was a waste of time and money with how the night went on.
I tried to ask for assistance as I had broken glass where I was to sit. I was shooshed away and rudely told they'd be with me soon! (all whilst a 2yo was to sit with me).
The rest of the night was a disaster, staff were extremely rude, avoided us and were basically not interested in serving our table at the least (now spending over $500 on Mexican to feed 6kids and 4 adults it's not like we werent paying for service). During meal service a lady said in no other terms we had ordered something which we absolutely didn't. She proceeded to throw our tortillas towards the table and stamp off in a huff as we said we hadn't ordered what she said we did. Never came to apologise for the confusion or anything.
Look food was tasty. Overpriced as let's face it, it's Mexican. But everyone deserves good service. We are spoilt for choice to eat on the GC, word of mouth is key.
Tidy up your website, get some staff who want to be there or at least train them to serve customers with a smile and be polite. Otherwise you'll just be the next restaurant closing their doors as no one will be paying those prices for Mexican and awful service.
We won't be bothering to...
Read moreUtterly disappointing from start to finish. Our order went missing, leaving us waiting over 40 minutes with no explanation and not even a basic apology.
When food finally arrived, the Twice Cooked Beef Cheefs Signature Tacos which was advertised as gluten free was in fact not gluten free at all. When we raised this, the waitress berated us for not “specifying” a gluten requirement — despite the menu clearly stating it. This is the equivalent of suggesting that someone orders the Mushrooms Tacos which sats V next to it but having to clearly specify whether the meal is vegetarian or not. Note, we had also ordered the Traditional Fajitas which was advertised as GF available, which we did specify so they clearly knew there was a GF requirement.
When the waitress returned with the GF dish, she again took the opportunity to berate us again for their own error! Blaming the customer for their own false advertising is unacceptable and downright careless.
Staff repeatedly ignored us, clearly unwilling to take responsibility throughout the evening. It appears the manager on the evening sets the tone for her staff as she was no better — dismissive, rude, and unwilling to address any of the issues beyond offering a token 10% discount, but only when we pushed for this. That response was insulting given the seriousness of the situation and the extremely poor service throughout.
For anyone with dietary requirements, this place is unsafe and careless - even though their menu specifically states they cater to dietaries. For everyone else, expect slow service, missing meals, and staff who are unprofessional and would rather shift blame than resolve problems.
A restaurant that cannot deliver meals in a reasonable time, misrepresents its menu, and treats customers with such disregard should not expect repeat business. Sadly, this was one of the worst dining experiences we’ve had, and we certainly will not...
