We celebrated a birthday dinner here with 4 adults and 2 kids, and it was such a great experience. The online booking process was very convenient, and the food absolutely impressed us from starters to mains.
Starters: • Miang Kam – The prawns were incredibly fresh with a springy texture, paired with a perfectly balanced sauce. Wrapping everything in the leaf made it refreshing and delightful. • Angus Satay – Generously sized and very tender. Even my 2-year-old could chew them easily. The meat itself was flavorful, and the dipping sauce with veggies was simply delicious. • Thaitaki – Great seasoning as always, though the texture of the raw beef was a little drier compared to Japanese-style versions like at Itoshin. • Calamari with Tom Yam Puree – Crispy outside, tender inside, paired with a tangy Tom Yum mayo. The kids loved this one!
Mains: • Crispy Pork Belly – Perfectly seasoned, so good that it didn’t even need sauce. The skin was crispy but easy to bite, with just the right fat-to-lean ratio. The side veggies enhanced the flavor instead of just cutting through richness. • Mushroom Wok Fry – A delightful mix of mushrooms, light and tasty. • Wagyu in Yellow Curry – High-quality beef with outstanding tenderness. The yellow curry added wonderful aroma and richness, making it even more indulgent. • Pineapple Fried Rice – Perfectly fried with distinct grains of rice and large, juicy prawns. The kids enjoyed it as is, while adults paired it with the curry for an extra kick—so addictive! • King Prawns – Absolutely massive, nearly the size of an adult hand. Lightly battered, fried, and coated with a flavorful sauce. Some shells were crispy enough to eat. A generous portion with 3 prawns per serve. • Pad Thai – Nicely balanced in texture, flavorful sauce, and overall very satisfying.
What really sets Valyn apart is that, unlike many Thai restaurants where the flavors can feel repetitive, every dish here has its own unique character. The freshness of the ingredients truly stands out, and for around $60+ per person, the value for money is excellent. It’s clear that the chef puts real thought into both cooking techniques and flavor profiles, giving each dish a distinctive touch.
Another highlight worth mentioning is the impressively fast serving speed — dishes came out quickly without compromising quality, which made the whole dining experience even more enjoyable.
Every dish was well executed, and the kids enjoyed the meal just as much as the adults. Highly recommend this place for both family gatherings and...
Read moreI went to Valyn Thai Restaurant and Bar on 20/09/25 to celebrate my birthday, hoping for a pleasant evening with great food. I specifically chose this place because I knew it had won an award for the best Thai food on the Gold Coast. While the food itself was delicious and absolutely lived up to its reputation, the service was extremely disappointing and disrespectful.
We had an 8:00 pm booking and were immediately told that the kitchen would close at 9:00 pm and the restaurant at 9:30 pm. I completely understand closing times, but this message was repeated by different staff members even after we were seated, making us feel rushed before we had even ordered. Around 8:50 pm, during our second round of drinks, the waitress informed us that this would already be the last drink order of the night.
Throughout the evening, the staff were curt and made no effort to create a welcoming atmosphere. While we were still eating, two different servers tried to take my plate away, twice, while I was clearly still chewing my food. Even more uncomfortably, staff brought the bill to our table while we were still eating, forcing us to sort out payment in the middle of our meal. Around 9:15 pm, staff also began closing the doors of the restaurant right next to our table, forcing my guests to move so they could shut them.
To make matters worse, this was a table of eight guests, and we spent a significant amount of money, yet we were rushed through the entire experience and finished our meal in an hour. We barely had time to enjoy the food or the evening, which was supposed to be a joyful birthday celebration.
If the restaurant is super strict with closing time, they should NOT accept bookings at 8:00 pm, 1 hour isn’t enough for you to order food and enjoy your meal. What was meant to be a special night turned into a stressful and uncomfortable experience. I left feeling very upset on my birthday. It’s such a shame because the food was excellent, but the service completely ruined what should have been a memorable night for me...
Read moreAvoid VALYN Thai – A Disgrace to Dining
VALYN Thai Restaurant & Bar was an absolute disaster from start to finish. Despite making a reservation, we arrived to find our table not even set up. The staff were polite, but all they could offer were endless apologies for every failure this place managed to deliver.
We ordered Fish Cake, Soft Shell Crab, Tom Yum Soup, Red Duck Curry, Chicken Satay Skewers, and rice. It sounds promising, but the reality was far from it. The Fish Cake was rubbery and tasteless, and the Soft Shell Crab arrived cold and soggy – completely inedible. The Tom Yum Soup lacked any spice or flavor, tasting more like lukewarm dishwater. The Red Duck Curry was bland and uninspired, with a texture suggesting it had been sitting out for hours. As for the Chicken Satay Skewers? You’d get better quality from a street vendor.
What made it worse was the staff’s lack of action. Their only solution was to repeatedly apologize, which quickly lost all meaning. This place charges fine-dining prices while delivering fast food quality at best.
VALYN Thai is a complete scam. They lure customers in with fancy photos and promises of authentic Thai cuisine, but what you actually get is overpriced, poorly-prepared food and an experience that leaves a bad taste in every sense. This isn’t just a restaurant with bad food—it’s a rip-off disguised as fine dining.
Do yourself a favor and steer clear of this place. VALYN Thai is a masterclass in disappointment and should be avoided...
