The Grand Poobah — Restaurant in Hobart

I was out last night for a friends birthday and I was sober drinking water. I spotted a man who kept buying drinks at the bar and stood in different areas of the Poobah trying to give random girls one of his drinks for free. This same man grabbed me inappropriately on the dance floor and I watched him do the same to multiple other woman. I approached a security guard and explained the situation only to be told “we will keep an eye on him”. I left the venue because I was feeling unsafe, as they didn’t keep an eye on this man and he continued his antisocial and harassment behaviour and grabbed me again for a second time. I then returned to the bar hours later, only to find that the same man was still in there doing the exact same thing and the security guard I approach for a second time waved me away. As a woman who has previously been roofied and assaulted on a night out, I am appalled and disgusted at the behaviour of the security guard who simply didn’t care enough to intervene. It’s bad enough that people are out there acting like this - it’s even worse when the people who are paid to protect the patrons and staff at clubs dismiss this behaviour and allow people like that man I encountered last night to continue to harass woman. As a woman, my safety and the safety of other woman is a priority and I recommend to all of you if you are a woman, DON’T GO TO THE POOBAH. Because even if you call out the disgusting behaviour of someone - they don’t care. Pretty devastated to be writing this at the Poobah has been my favourite club for years but now I don’t see myself ever feeling safe there. Please look after yourselves...

The bouncer was very arrogant. He was grabbing some woman while on duty outside the door and it was just disturbing … he denied me entry claiming it’s lockout but It was only 1am and if I’m correct Poobah doesn’t do that until 2-3am from what locals have told me? I wasn’t drunk or rude at all and in proper attire. so this behaviour is just odd. I’m from America and was looking around bars for my travel blog as I have a high amount of followers who like seeing the worst-best clubs/bars in the world. Definitely rating this place a 1/10. Went for a night out with a friend visiting from another state. We paid $22 each for entry and were served by a very rude bartender who refused to make us cocktails, right after serving two white patrons theirs. She said the bar was busy, even though there were only about five people in front of it, including us. The gin and tonic we were given tasted like mostly ice and water.
