We were a party of 4 friends from Melbourne, of diverse backgrounds, I was originally from Malaysia, another friend from Italy, and one from Hong Kong and another from Macau, but we are all Australian citizens, and Melbourne had been our home for several decades. We visited Tassie towards the end of Jan 2021, having a great, wonderful time enjoying our holidays and each other's company, in such a beautiful state like Tassie. On our Launceston leg, we were unfortunate enough to come upon some "racist" and "you are not welcome here" attitude from several waitstaff at The Irish Pub!!! They refused to acknowledge our calls for service, pretended not to see our constant wave of hands, even when one of us walked to the counter, we were told off rudely they were busy with other customers, but after 15mins they still do not want to serve us, chatting behind the counter most of the time. We asked to speak to the Manager, and they asked us to wait again, after 10mins and continue to ignore us. When the air cond was too cold and blowing directly on our face, we requested for it to be lowered or turn off as it was quite cold on that evening, but one of the staff rudely told my Italian friend, we cant turn off the aircond just for you, you will need to move to another table, so we moved. But during dinner, another 3 local girls asked the waitress to turn off the aircond, she did it without any question! The whole evening the wait staff continued to ignore us, eventually when we got up to leave, only then they called out to us to pay our bill, then my Macau friend said to them, "Oh, now you see us!!!" The Manager we spoke to said he is also the Chef there and although apologetic, he refused to ask his wait staff to apologise to us, which is not very good "customer recovery". We will definitely...
Read moreRude staff. Me and my fiance wanted to relax and have a few drinks on Anzac day. The bar staff turned weird and wouldn't serve me. I was sitting quietly with my friends chatting. We had two standard drinks each - then shared three beers, as in me and my fiance were buying a pint between us and sharing it from the same cup. It was a good casual night sitting quietly amongst the Anzac day revellers. I was then told by my fiance after she bought a beer that I was cut off. Everyone thought it must be a case of mistaken identity I was clearly not as drunk as others who had been there a lot longer drinking all day. There, was nothing I could say. I thought they'd made a mistake, but I was wrong. The staff turned the opposite to hospitable for no good reason. One of the bouncers wandered up to where we were sitting and just stood nearby keeping an eye over us. We Peacefully walked out though i wonder what would have happened had i tried to talk to the staff to understand the situation as they were very inhospitable and i got the feeling things could have turned ugly very quickly. The irish was sadly my favourite hotel in Launceston but I don't feel safe walking in there for a casual...
Read moreLast night (Thursday, 29 June 2023), my friends and I were drinking and playing pool at the Irish - we had been there since around 10pm, and this incident occurred at about 11:50pm (10 minutes before closing time), at which time we were told kindly to wrap up our game by a young adult male employee. We agreed, and each team only had one more ball to pot, so we were quickly finishing up.
Straight after this, an adult female employee yelled at us, advising us to "hurry up, will yous!", to which my friend replied “we’re almost done?”, and she replied “don’t check your watch on me, motherf*er!”. My friend then said “I beg your pardon?” and she threatened to barr us and that it was “not up for debate”.
We all found this extremely inappropriate, unprofessional and rude. The Irish is my favourite pub in Launceston, and we are all regular patrons, but this experience has unfortunately tarnished our opinions of it. This ultimately was and is an unacceptable way to treat well-behaved patrons, and would be an unprofessional way to deal with...
