ALMYRA
Lorne’s hidden gem - for those who aren’t local like us, it’s definitely worth walking a few metres away from the main strip for your breakfast, lunch, or dinner. We had initially only planned to have a romantic dinner, but after loving the venue and the food, we ended up eating here everyday for three days straight!
Keep reading the whole review for our detailed experience but for the short and concise version, read the below:
The venue is situated perfectly by the beach and is a convenient location to spend your whole day like we had done from lunch, swimming, drinking, and dinner. The food was amazing, but their service, attention to detail, and ability to accomodate and entertain our needs are why we would recommend this little gem, and the reason why we’ll continue to come back the next time we find ourselves in Lorne.
DINNER: For our starters, our highlight dish was the Taramasalata QLD Mullet Roe with Pita Bread!!! You cannot go to Almyra and NOT order this amazing starter. We also had the Saganaki which had been toasted to perfection and the King Fish Sashimi. For mains, we had the Char-grilled Octopus and Wagyu Souvlaki and our plates were spotless by the time we started our desserts The desserts are traditional greek desserts which were clearly made with love. The Galaktoboureko, Baklava, and Ouzo Shortbread were suggested by the staff, and we loved it so much that we had to take the leftovers home to not waste it. The drinks were reasonably priced and came very quickly, but what was even better than the ocean-front view were the service from staff members Carly and Mikhail who really catered to us and addressed any and all concerns.
LUNCH: Round 2 included calamari and a tomato salad, open chicken and lamb souvlaki and their hot chips. Mikhail and Carly were super accomodating once again, often checking in on us throughout our lunch.
HAPPY HOUR + Dinner: We came back to the restaurant to abuse the happy hour from 3:30pm to 5:30pm, before jumping into the ocean conveniently located 20 metres away from where we were drinking. After our swim we came back for round 3 for their Shrimp and Chorizo Woodfire Pizza and drink recommendations from Carly!
BREAKFAST: For a light but filling meal, my partner and I shared the Almyra breakfast, made with love and fuel...
Read moreCame here for a weekend away and decided to give this place a try as it has some solid reviews, and the location on the beach is amazing. Unfortunately, if you take the location out of the equation, there isn't that much that makes this place a must visit in the area. We were lucky enough to get a corner table with the view of the ocean. However, there were multiple blow flies flying around the windows. As for the meals, we ordered the calamari, which was crisp and tender, didn't have a lot of flavour. The spanokota was filled with spinach, and feta was very tasty, but the pastry was too thick, so it didn't get as crispy and crunchy as it should have been. The highlight of the entree was definitely the saganaki, we would certainly order that again if we came back. For the mains, we got the slow cooked lamb shoulder with roast potatoes and a Greek salad. The lamb was actually dry but still had good flavour, but it was a big letdown. The potatoes weren't crispy either. Let's face the 2 main parts of the main course were well under par. The greek salad was very good, filled with lots of olives but certainly needed more feta cheese. Lastly, we ordered the vanilla bean ice cream and baklava. Surprisingly, this dish took the longest time to come out despite nothing that needed to be cooked. Once we questioned the wait staff, it appeared 2 minutes later. The ice cream tasted like it came from the supermarket and not made in-house. I feel any homemade vanilla ice cream would have speckles of vanilla bean running through it. Unfortunately, this place missed the mark on so many elements that I wouldn't recommend or visit this...
Read moreMy mother in law found two hairs in her meal at Almyra Beach Bar Lorne. While they offered a free meal to make up for it, the owners’ response was disappointing—they questioned whether the meals had been checked and insinuated we were lying. A free meal doesn't make up for poor customer service and a lack of professionalism. I won’t be returning.
Responses to your reply below: Thank you for your response. However, I feel it’s important to address a few points about how this situation was handled.
The issue wasn’t just the "hessian-like strings" or the offer of a replacement meal—it was the dismissive attitude and insinuation that we were not being truthful. This left us feeling unheard and disrespected.
Additionally, the apology was directed to the gentleman at the table rather than the person directly affected by the issue, which was disappointing. It would have been more appropriate and professional to address the concern with the person who discovered the issue in their meal.
A more empathetic and customer-focused approach would have gone a long way in resolving the matter satisfactorily. While I appreciate the follow-up, I hope this feedback helps improve how such situations are handled...
