Riverbank Café is a charming stop just before entering the picturesque town of Lorne, and it certainly delivers a memorable experience. Nestled in a scenic spot beside the river, the location alone is worth the visit. Surrounded by nature, the café offers a peaceful and relaxing setting, making it an ideal spot to unwind before continuing your journey along the Great Ocean Road.
The food and coffee were excellent – fresh, well-presented, and full of flavour. While the prices are a little on the higher side, it’s understandable given the prime location and quality of the offerings. Sometimes, you're paying not just for a meal but for the overall experience, and Riverbank Café offers exactly that. The riverside view, combined with the gentle sounds of the surrounding bushland, creates a lovely atmosphere for breakfast, brunch, or a coffee break.
What stood out most was the service. The staff were warm, friendly, and more than happy to accommodate all of our requests. Whether it was dietary preferences or seating choices, nothing was too much trouble, and that level of attentiveness really added to the overall positive experience.
There’s ample parking nearby, and the café is also family-friendly, which is a bonus for those travelling with kids.
All in all, Riverbank Café ticks the right boxes for location, food, and service. It’s a great stop whether you're passing through or looking to enjoy a meal in a tranquil riverside setting. We will definitely return on...
Read moreAbsolute appalling customer service! I wouldn't even give it one star. Usually the food is good! But what's good food without customer service! After eating a nice breakfast here on a few occasions we decided to have lunch here again. After dining my mother her for her birthday lunch I approached a staff waitress and said, I have brought in a cake for my mum is there any chance I would be able to have 5 plates and a knife?. The waitress said yes that's fine. Who then whispered to another colleague in the kitchen, the other waitress then said we just have to wait for the other waitress. She came out from out the back (perhaps the manager) and dramatically accused me for being so inconsiderate and extremely rude for bringing that into her shop. I said sorry, look my mums not well and it could be her last birthday. She then conutinued to verbally abuse me for my actions. I returned to the family table to notify my family who wanted to leave and take the cake elsewhere. My family was taken by shock.. we then stated to her 'we come down here annually and support your cafe on a daily basis, couldn't you of just done the same for us.? She replied loudly NO, ild rather you go elsewhere then demanded us to leave her cafe amounfst onlookers. I returned to the table to find my unwell mother gone. Possibly her last birthday I'll get to share with her ended in tears from a horrible disgusting experience of poor...
Read moreI was visiting with a friend who came from USA. The barista was rude and made assumptions about us.
As we ordered, the barista already had an attitude. After which, we sat outside with our drinks while waiting for the others we were with to finish ordering and using the bathroom. The barista (a blonde woman, don’t remember her name) actually asked my husband to tell us to leave even though we had ordered drinks and were simply sitting at one of the provided outdoor tables for a few minutes. We were calm and respectful but she cited the reason as “they may leave their trash afterwards and we don’t want to pick it up.” She made an assumption about us without even knowing what we would do.
Personally, I think because we were American or Muslims/people of color, the barista had a problem. Rude from the beginning and asked us to leave the premises although we were sitting quietly and never intended on leaving our trash. I would never recommend going here for anyone who looks or...
