Beans & Bottles — Restaurant in Melbourne

This place should be raking in $ from the hundreds of customers who reside in nearby apartment buildings, but due to mismanagement & appalling staffing choices, it’s a total hen’s breakfast. The layout is totally non-sensical - with the ice cream fridge sitting in direct sunlight all day, & the (grossly overpriced) wine selection being completely disorganised, with only 15% of wines bearing a price tag. But worst of all are the abysmal staffing choices, with the one remaining female staff member being the only one with customer service skills & the ability to make great coffee. The stocky dude with glasses is a rude, ignoramus who makes weak, undrinkable coffee & puts banana bread in the microwave (cause he’s too lazy to put it in the toaster, which turns it to inedible mush) & who can’t even be bothered to greet or speak to customers. I regularly see him having smoko’s behind the cafe in a conspiratorial manner with the chick i assume that ii assume to be ‘the manager’ (having been lucky enough to witness her berating a female staff member, in front of customers a couple of months ago - so professional!l) & replaced her with an english guy that doesn’t know how to make coffer, looks constantly overwhelmed & like he’s about to cry if he has to deal with more than 1 customer at a time. As someone who has managed upmarket bottle shops & venues, i would recommend firing the manager, as that person clearly has no wine knowledge, no merchandising, or marketing skills & no HR skills either. Has a mishap with the order. Staying in the hotel for the lions game and went to grab a coffee and a bacon and egg role from the cafe. Ended up being charged twice and told I couldn’t get a refund but rather argumentatively staff. Then looked in the egg and bacon sandwich (pre cooked and microwaves by the way) to find the smallest piece of bacon in it. To then me told that I couldn’t get another as they didn’t want to waste food. After an argument with the staff I ended up with another roll and the contends of the original one added to it. I always love this cafe. It may seem a strange place to get a coffee(it’s tucked under the crest hotel) but the coffee is always good no matter the barista. Speaking of which, their staff are so lovely and very friendly. I’m always in for a giggle when I go there... which I think is why my coffee always tastes better when I get it here🤔. The only thing I’d say is avoid the place when the tourist buses are around as it’s cluttered with people & the buses block...
