I did want to bring this to the owners attention so I emailed them directly, after more than 3 weeks I received no response so now I will make my thoughts public- this is the email I sent.... Good afternoon, I just wanted to touch base with you regarding today's lunch experience. Firstly it is very important to note that we were greeted by one of the owners who was charming, helpful and service orientated. We used to own a food business, so we are not going to post these words as a review because I know how hard people work in hospitality. But as a former food business owner I would want to know what went wrong for my customers today. Service was slow but I know that the owner's partner was running late, so the former, was flat chat, so fair enough for slow service. Our entrees were not up to scratch, the heirloom tomato tart did not contain heirloom tomatoes, it was somewhat soggy, if there was relish, as noted on the menu it was not evident- on paper it sounded wonderful, but it lacked quality and seasoning, the muscles dish had a nice sauce- tasty, but 5 muscles only was pretty disappointing. The mains, the crab pasta was the most disappointing dish, the flavour profile was completely out, plus an unpleasant seafoody flavour was not right and with such simple ingredients, which should have been: a little oil, white wine, garlic, some fresh parsley and seasoning, with the crab and pippies was all that it should have tasted of- we could not eat it- however the owner sensed this, took it off the bill, and offered a replacement meal- given the time it took to come, we opted not to replace. The wine was lovely and we acknowledge that this was discounted for us as the one we chose was not available. The roast, the meal we really came for, was at best cool, and pretty darn average. I asked for it to be microwaved but it came back still pretty luke warm. The gravy was floury, the yorkies were either old (cooked on another day) or just not executed well- soggy. If the roast had of come out piping hot, I probably would have been reasonably pleased and just eaten it as we were hungry! Sadly not a great day in the kitchen. I would like to again acknowledge the friendly owner who tried and tried to keep up with it all, all by himself- lovely gentleman, super friendly. After spending $160 already minus the crab pasta (would have been $200), we were very...

Bobbie Peels is a pub located in North Melbourne, with its name It is brought to you by the same team as Small Print, Rusty’s Sandwich Bar, Burnley Brewing.
The iconic 113 year old building has had many previous lives, originally the Robbie Peels hotel. It has been renovated whilst still keeping its character and gives a retro vibe, paired with some fantastic 70’s music. It boasts an outdoor courtyard and multiple different styles of seating, so wether you’re coming with a group, a date or even solo, there is somewhere comfortable for you. There is also a function space upstairs. 🎵
The bar stocks an array of wines from old/aged classics to modern natural, skin contact and boutiques, as well as independent and craft beers and spirits. I had the Negroni, which was textbook perfect. Head Chef Adam Powell runs the kitchen, with a menu that continually fluctuates based on what’s fresh at the Queen Victoria Market up the road. 👨🏼🌾
My favourite dish was the Mussels, although this was technically a starter it was very generous and packed with flavour. Even the bread was delicious and soaked up all of the broth, and if my intrusive thoughts had their way I would’ve sipped it all straight from the bowl.
The Lamb Shoulder had a very strong flavoured sauce, I would’ve loved it to be more tender and falling apart but the mash and beans were perfect. The handmade pasta was meant to be Paccheri but it wasn’t? The pasta unfortunately was overcooked and too soft. Both dishes were giving homely, winter, comfort food. The Hand Cut Chips impressed on portion size and taste however weren’t at all crisp.
Open around a year now, with some friendly and humble staff. We definitely see potential and will be back again to try more of the menu, which will be having a bit of an update in a few weeks! Great value for money too, as the portions here are...
Read moreI'd past this pub so many times after coming out of an appointment at Peter Mac Hospital, but it was always shut. So was sooo happy to walk past when it was open on my last visit and have a pint. I probably bored the young man behind the bar to death, although he humored me and seemed genuinely interested when i told him i was born in the same town in England as Sir Robert Peel, a town called Bury in Lancashire. I've placed a picture in this review of the monument that stands with pride in the center of our town, place in the middle of the 2 oldest buildings in town on the old town square. One is the Parish Church and the other the den of inequity, a pub named the Two Tubs. I won't bore you lot here of his achievements needless to say he became Prime Minister and was one of the founders of the modern day Conservative Party, but what he was really famous for, and what the reason this pub is called what it is, is because Robert Peel was the founder of the Police force. Affectionately called Bobbies. The pub has some good old memorabilia, some relevant to Bobbie Peel, some completely left of field and way off, but nonetheless a...
