Definitely plan your visit for their Wagyu Wednesdays and Sundays, where you can enjoy a steak (or any main meal) for a wild $30pp including UNLIMITED fries! Unheard of. You can also enjoy Happy Hour 4-7PM Thurs-Fri and 2-5PM Saturdays, with $8 Schooners, $10 Wine, $10 Spritz. 🥩
For cocktails, I recommend the Native Negroni. We couldn’t help but want to try almost everything on the menu, beginning with some refreshing starters of oysters and a smashed cucumber salad. 🦪
Standouts to us were the Spelt Flatbread, beautifully seasoned and paired with a slightly sweet butter, and that extra crispy Hot Honey Fried Chicken. Although popular for the Steak, which was cooked well and served with a beautiful sauce we did find it slightly under seasoned.
We were personally much more wowed by the Double Cheeseburger, super juicy and full of flavour. We did think it needed a little something extra to balance out the double smash patty but an almost faultless dish. 🍔
They also have a street alfresco areas and back courtyard, for those who prefer the outdoors. A casual, unfussy spot with a menu that evolves constantly and provides great value. What more can...
Read moreHad been recommended Bonny bar so decided to give it a go. We were quickly seated and given menus. The first thing of note, which we didn't know, was that the wine selections, few as they were, were all "on tap". This was a new concept to us and had we known would probably not have gone. The choice was very limited with only a few selections in the 'white' and 'red' offerings and one 'orange'. So we chose our pre dinner drinks and ordered a half litre of red wine, shiraz. You can only order a glass, a half litre or a full litre. We were not prepared to order a whole litre of wine we didn't know. Next we made our food selections. We were excited to try the fried chicken but were told when the waitress eventually arrived to take our order that "sorry we don't have any of that today". The menu isn't large so it would have been good for her to tell us when giving us menus. We switched to half a dozen oysters to share along with the heirloom tomato salad. For mains we selected the sher waygu steak and the three cheese gnocchi. The food came, but no utensils so we had to ask for them. Also had to ask for salt and pepper. The oysters were tepid verging on room temp, not very palatable and the dressing, described as yuzu and jalepeno sounded great but was actually sweet, which to me did not go. The salad was delicious and we both really enjoyed it. The steak was amazing and perfectly cooked and such good value. The gnocchi was bland and not a cheesy dish as we expected with really only 2 cheeses we could discern. A seriusly disappointing dish that we didn't even finish. So bit of a mixed bag. We would go back for the steak and a glass of wine each but that's about it. Service needs a...

What we’ve had: 🦪 Sydney rock oysters 🍞 Spelt flatbread, macadamia butter 🍗 Hot honey fried chicken, plum BBQ sauce 🥗 Salad with citrus dressing 🥩 Wagyu steak with frites 🍔 Prawn and fish katsu burger
The Sydney rock oysters were fresh and delicious, the spelt flatbread with macadamia butter was a delightful twist, and the hot honey fried chicken with plum BBQ sauce was finger-licking good. The salad with citrus dressing provided a refreshing balance, and the wagyu steak with frites was cooked to medium-rare perfection. But the real star of the show was the prawn and fish katsu burger – a true culinary masterpiece!
However, what truly sets Bonny apart is the lovely people working there who make it special. The staff are incredibly welcoming, knowledgeable, and passionate about what they do. Their friendly demeanor adds to the overall charm of the place and enhances the dining experience.
But it's not just about the food; Bonny boasts an impressive array of 27 taps featuring independent local wine, signature cocktails, and craft beer. It's Fitzroy's one-stop tap house, offering something for every palate. My only regret is not being able to try all 27 hahaha.
Whether you're a local or just passing through, Bonny is a must-visit. Highly recommend giving this place a try – you won't be...
