Bouvardia — Restaurant in Melbourne

I am medically exempt from wearing a mask. I confirmed this with the waiter/bar attendant as my friends and I awaited to be seated.

We understand that it was busy. However, the waiter told my friends that there was a table available for us, before asking us to put on our masks. When we stated that we were medically exempt, he proceeded to ask “all 3 of you?” we reassured him “yes”.

Without hesitation, he claims there wasn’t any table available for us tonight. He then proceeded to serve a couple a table right in front of us before we left. I asked how there wasn’t a table when he was servicing the couple who had entered after us, he claims there was only room for them.

Okay, that’s fine.

Don’t claim there’s a table then if there isn’t one, and proceed to ignore my questions after you ask follow-up questions when patrons / your customers have confirmed (appropriately, and legally) that they are MEDICALLY exempt - as per the DHHS guidelines.

We felt discriminated against, especially experiencing the waiters attitude, who ignored some of my questions and served other patrons instead. Claiming “it doesn’t matter” that he told us there was a table available when we first walked in.

After visiting a third time, my friends and I won’t be coming back here.

Like some of the best places in Melbourne stairs and slightly hidden entrances are involved, but the contrast to what you discover is a beautiful tease for what’s to come.

The drinks are ever changing this was my third visit and I’ve never seen the same menu. I won’t mention what I drank because it’ll have changed soon enough, all I can say is try things you wouldn’t normally, ask questions and embrace it.

The bar is beautiful and there’s plenty to look at the layout, ambiance and music all encouraging you to immerse yourself in the place.

The stand out factor are the staff and the service, it cannot be faulted from the welcome to the recommendations of other places as you leave. Sam whom we had the pleasure of meeting this time is a true professional bartender offering humour, passion and absolute hospitality! 5/5 on Sam’s merit alone.
