Ordered eggs and toast with an extra slice of toast, eggs benny, green supreme.

Wait time was longer than usual, but there were two other tables so maybe that’s why.

Green supreme came out first, a giant heap of unseasoned mess on a plate. Overloading a plate does not make a meal better or negate your chef’s shortfalls.

The smashed avo was just that, smashed “whole” avocado (the stone included). Nothing on the plate was seasoned, except for the store-bought veggie patty. There was clumpy salt and pepper on the table which we tried to use.

Eggs benny, one of the eggs came overdone. When brought to the attention of the staff, the whole plate was taken away instead of a hard egg taken away and replaced. My husband did say, well can’t you just bring out the replacement egg? But was told that, no the entire order had to be re-made.

The eggs and toast came out last, when we asked the waitress if it was still on the way, she told us that it had to be sent back to the kitchen because they forgot the extra slice of toast. If we had known/given the option, I would have asked them to just serve what was available now.

Considering the wait time was longer than normal, why not have your customers start eating and bring the extra/replacements afterwards? The eggs and toast were for the kids and it would have been better to let them start eating.

The eggs Benny was taken off the bill, without us requesting, which was a nice gesture but unfortunately not enough to save the entire...

We came in looking for a coffee and a gluten free meal (advertised gf on the menu including toast). Came in and sat down and were told to order immediately- we ordered coffee and asked if we could have more time to get food. Someone came over later to take our order. She then proceeded to come out and ask if gluten free is okay to be in the same pan as gluten (being celiac this is a no) so we said no and we were appreciative that we were asked.

Was then offered musli or porridge as “safe” gluten free options. - so honestly they have no idea what wheat is…

Came out again saying they can’t serve us because it’s cooked in the same pan- I asked if they would wash the pan and was told no (ew, why aren’t we washing pans????) Said don’t worry about food just our coffees (ordered 20+ minutes ago now) and the staff had not put in our coffee order which we placed as we sat down as per the staffs request.

To add insult to injury as we had said no that’s not safe and we made the decision to leave the establishment as they can’t take a coffee order or wash pans the “gluten free” meal was served as we were leaving. So they were cooking the gluten free meal even after we said no.

So can’t comment on if the food was nice because the service was so bad we never got it.

The atmosphere lured us in though.

Final call- not celiac safe not worth your time if you just want a coffee or...

Nestled in the heart of Melbourne, Brown Sugar Cafe is a true hidden gem that combines a cozy atmosphere with outstanding food and impeccable service. From the moment you step through the doors, you're greeted with a warm, inviting ambiance that feels like a home away from home. The rustic decor, with its charming wooden tables and ambient lighting, sets the stage for a relaxed dining experience. The coffee at Brown Sugar Cafe is nothing short of exceptional. The baristas here clearly know their craft, and the result is a consistently excellent brew that keeps patrons coming back for more. But what truly sets Brown Sugar Cafe apart is the service. The staff (Alba and Rin) are friendly, attentive, and genuinely care about ensuring a pleasant dining experience for every guest. Their warm hospitality makes you feel like a valued friend rather than just another customer. In summary, Brown Sugar Cafe is a must-visit for anyone in Melbourne looking to enjoy great food, excellent coffee, and top-notch service in a welcoming environment. Whether you're a local or just passing through, this cafe will quickly become a favorite spot.

I went here for a weekday breakfast. This restaurant is located in the laneway of a small shopping arcade. I chose it because it looked a bit busier than some of the surrounding restaurants, which is often a good sign. I ordered a flat white and 2 eggs with toast. It took me three tries to explain to the server that I wanted my eggs poached "medium". The young servers were very sweet but had limited English proficiency. The flat white coffee was good, with an artistic design on the foam. The eggs were arrived poached medium-hard on a single slice of barely toasted dryish bread. I was not offered any tomato sauce or other condiments for the meal. Salt and pepper were on the table. The service was OK, as was the food.
